Description

Crispy and flavorful Air Fryer Fish and Chips made with tender white fish filets coated in a seasoned breadcrumb crust, air fried to perfection for a healthier twist on the classic British favorite. Served with optional french fries, tartar sauce, and lemon wedges for a complete meal ready in just 25 minutes.

Ingredients

Fish Coating

  • 1 pound white fish filets (thawed)
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 Tablespoons Old Bay Seasoning (divided)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 Tablespoons buttermilk
  • 1 cup plain breadcrumbs

Optional Sides & Garnish

  • French fries (optional side)
  • Tartar sauce (optional side)
  • Lemon wedges (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Fish: Pat the fish filets dry thoroughly with clean paper towels to ensure the coating adheres well.
  2. Make Flour Mixture: In a shallow dish, combine the all-purpose flour with 1 tablespoon of Old Bay Seasoning and mix well.
  3. Prepare Egg Wash: In a second shallow dish, whisk together the eggs and buttermilk until smooth.
  4. Prepare Breadcrumbs: In a third shallow dish, mix the plain breadcrumbs with the remaining 2 tablespoons of Old Bay Seasoning thoroughly.
  5. Coat the Fish: Dip each filet first into the flour mixture, making sure it is fully coated, then dip into the egg mixture, and finally press gently into the breadcrumb mixture until fully covered with an even layer.
  6. Prepare for Air Frying: Place the coated filets on a clean plate. Spray each side generously with cooking spray to ensure crispiness.
  7. Air Fry the Fish: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (204°C). Arrange the filets in a single layer inside the air fryer basket, avoiding overcrowding. Cook for 6-10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the coating is golden and fish is cooked through. You may need to cook in batches.
  8. Serve: Serve the air fried fish hot with optional french fries, tartar sauce, and lemon wedges to add zest and flavor as desired.

Notes

  • Make sure filets are fully thawed and patted dry for best coating results.
  • Cooking times may vary depending on the thickness of the fish pieces and your specific air fryer model.
  • To keep fish crispy, do not overcrowd the air fryer basket; cook in batches if necessary.
  • You can use other white fish such as cod, haddock, or tilapia as substitutes.
  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of salt and pepper to the flour mixture.
