Description

Crispy and golden Air Fryer Halloumi Fries are a delicious, easy-to-make snack or appetizer. Made by coating halloumi cheese sticks in seasoned flour, egg, and panko breadcrumbs, then air frying until perfectly crisp. Serve them hot with optional hot honey for a sweet and spicy kick.

Ingredients

Halloumi Fries

  • 8.8 oz halloumi cheese
  • ⅔ cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 4 teaspoons Italian seasoning, divided
  • 3 tablespoons all purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper, freshly ground
  • 1 large egg
  • Oil spray (for coating)

Optional

  • Hot honey (homemade or storebought, for dipping or drizzling)

Instructions

  1. Cut: Slice the halloumi cheese block into 12 fry-sized sticks. First, cut the block down the middle lengthwise. Then cut each half into 6 pieces, each about 0.4-inch (1 cm) thick and 0.75-inch (2 cm) wide.
  2. Prep bowls: Prepare three shallow bowls: Bowl 1 with panko breadcrumbs mixed with 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning; Bowl 2 with all-purpose flour, remaining 3 teaspoons Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and black pepper; Bowl 3 with the whisked egg.
  3. Coat: Toss all halloumi sticks in the flour mixture to coat fully. Use a fork to dip each stick into the egg, letting excess drip off. Then transfer it to the panko mixture, pressing gently with fingertips to ensure full coverage. Repeat for all sticks and arrange them in a single layer inside the air fryer basket.
  4. Air fry: Lightly spray the coated halloumi fries with oil spray for crispness. Air fry at 390℉ (200℃) without preheating for about 8 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Cooking time may vary depending on your air fryer model.
  5. Serve: Enjoy the halloumi fries hot, optionally drizzled or served with hot honey for a sweet and spicy contrast.

Notes

  • Use a neutral oil spray like avocado or olive oil for best results and crispiness.
  • No need to preheat the air fryer; just add the fries and start cooking.
  • The cooking time may vary based on air fryer brand and size; check for golden brown color.
  • Hot honey adds a delightful spicy-sweet flavor—adjust quantity to your taste or serve on the side.
