Baked to gooey perfection and garnished with fresh thyme, they make a delightful bite-sized treat for any gathering.
Ingredients
Bread & Cheese
- 1/2 of a baguette (about 12 slices)
- 12 slices of brie (cut about 1/2 inch thick, rind on or off)
Fruit & Nuts
- 1/2 of an apple (cut into 12 thin slices)
- 3 tablespoons toasted chopped walnuts
Seasoning & Garnish
- Cayenne pepper for sprinkling on top of the crostini (optional)
- Honey for drizzling
- Fresh thyme for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375° F (190° C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
- Prepare the Crostini: Arrange the baguette slices on the baking sheet and place a slice of brie on each slice. This will allow the cheese to melt nicely during baking.
- Bake the Crostini: Bake in the preheated oven for 6-8 minutes or until the brie is melted and soft but not completely runny.
- Slice the Apple: While the crostini bake, thinly slice the apple into 12 pieces to match the number of crostini.
- Assemble the Toppings: Remove the crostini from the oven. Top each with a slice of apple, a light sprinkle of cayenne pepper if using, toasted chopped walnuts, and fresh thyme leaves for an aromatic touch.
- Finish with Honey: Drizzle each crostini lightly with honey to add sweetness and balance the flavors. Serve immediately while warm for the best experience.
Notes
- If you prefer, you can use multigrain or sourdough bread instead of a baguette for different flavor and texture.
- Cayenne pepper is optional but adds a nice subtle heat that contrasts beautifully with the sweet honey and apples.
- For a nuttier flavor, try substituting or adding pecans or almonds instead of walnuts.
- Make sure not to overbake, as the brie should be melted but still hold its shape to stay on the crostini.
- Serve these crostini warm as an appetizer to impress guests with minimal effort.
