Description

These Apple Brie Crostini are an elegant and easy appetizer combining creamy melted brie, crisp apple slices, toasted walnuts, and a touch of honey and cayenne for a perfect balance of sweet, savory, and spicy flavors. Baked to gooey perfection and garnished with fresh thyme, they make a delightful bite-sized treat for any gathering.

Ingredients

Bread & Cheese

  • 1/2 of a baguette (about 12 slices)
  • 12 slices of brie (cut about 1/2 inch thick, rind on or off)

Fruit & Nuts

  • 1/2 of an apple (cut into 12 thin slices)
  • 3 tablespoons toasted chopped walnuts

Seasoning & Garnish

  • Cayenne pepper for sprinkling on top of the crostini (optional)
  • Honey for drizzling
  • Fresh thyme for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375° F (190° C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
  2. Prepare the Crostini: Arrange the baguette slices on the baking sheet and place a slice of brie on each slice. This will allow the cheese to melt nicely during baking.
  3. Bake the Crostini: Bake in the preheated oven for 6-8 minutes or until the brie is melted and soft but not completely runny.
  4. Slice the Apple: While the crostini bake, thinly slice the apple into 12 pieces to match the number of crostini.
  5. Assemble the Toppings: Remove the crostini from the oven. Top each with a slice of apple, a light sprinkle of cayenne pepper if using, toasted chopped walnuts, and fresh thyme leaves for an aromatic touch.
  6. Finish with Honey: Drizzle each crostini lightly with honey to add sweetness and balance the flavors. Serve immediately while warm for the best experience.

Notes

  • If you prefer, you can use multigrain or sourdough bread instead of a baguette for different flavor and texture.
  • Cayenne pepper is optional but adds a nice subtle heat that contrasts beautifully with the sweet honey and apples.
  • For a nuttier flavor, try substituting or adding pecans or almonds instead of walnuts.
  • Make sure not to overbake, as the brie should be melted but still hold its shape to stay on the crostini.
  • Serve these crostini warm as an appetizer to impress guests with minimal effort.
