Description

These Big Mac Sloppy Joes are a delicious twist on the classic sloppy joe sandwich, inspired by the iconic flavors of a Big Mac. Ground beef cooked with spices and tangy condiments is topped with a creamy Big Mac-style sauce, fresh lettuce, onions, pickles, tomato, and cheese, all served on hamburger buns. Ready in just 25 minutes, this family-friendly recipe is perfect for a quick and satisfying meal.

Ingredients

For the Sloppy Joe Mixture

  • 1/2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 lb lean ground beef, ground chicken or ground turkey
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp yellow or Dijon mustard
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

For the Big Mac Sauce

  • 1/3 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • 1.5 tbsp Dijon mustard (or yellow mustard)
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp honey
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

For Assembly

  • Hamburger buns
  • Lettuce
  • Pickle chips
  • Sliced sweet onion
  • Tomato slices
  • Cheese slices

Instructions

  1. Sauté Onions: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook for 3-4 minutes until the onions begin to soften, stirring occasionally.
  2. Cook Meat and Seasonings: Reduce the heat to medium-low, then add the ground beef along with garlic powder and paprika. Break up the meat with a spatula and stir occasionally, cooking until the beef is fully browned and cooked through. Then add the Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, and mustard, stirring to combine. Continue cooking on low heat for 4-5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld, stirring regularly.
  3. Prepare Big Mac Sauce: While the meat is cooking, combine Greek yogurt, mayonnaise, ketchup, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, paprika, honey, apple cider vinegar, salt, and pepper in a small bowl. Mix thoroughly and set aside.
  4. Assemble Sloppy Joes: To assemble, place a generous portion of the cooked meat mixture on the bottom half of each hamburger bun. Add a generous amount of the Big Mac sauce over the meat, then layer with lettuce, sliced sweet onion, pickle chips, tomato slices, and cheese. Top with more Big Mac sauce and cover with the bun tops. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground beef with ground chicken or turkey for a leaner option.
  • If desired, lightly toast the hamburger buns before assembling for extra texture.
  • Adjust the seasoning and sauce quantities to suit your taste preferences.
  • To make this dish gluten-free, use gluten-free buns and ensure Worcestershire sauce is gluten-free.
  • Leftover meat mixture can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated for quick meals.
