Description
Delight in these Brown Butter Pretzel Chocolate Chip Rice Krispie Treats that combine the nutty richness of browned butter with the classic chewy texture of marshmallow rice krispies, crunchy salted pretzels, and melty dark chocolate chips. Finished with festive Valentine’s sprinkles, these treats offer a perfect blend of sweet, salty, and chocolatey flavors, ideal for parties or a fun family snack.
Ingredients
Base Ingredients
- 1 Stick Unsalted Butter
- 10 Ounces Mini Marshmallows
- 2 Teaspoons Vanilla Extract
- 6 Cups Rice Krispies Cereal (or similar)
Add-ins
- 2 Cups Pretzels (crushed)
- ¾ Cup Dark Chocolate Baking Chips (I love Hu chocolate)
- 3 Tablespoons Valentine’s Sprinkles
Instructions
- Brown the Butter: Place the unsalted butter in a large pot over low-medium heat. Stir frequently and allow the butter to melt completely. Continue cooking until it turns golden brown with nutty aromas and browned flecks form on the bottom of the pot, approximately 4–5 minutes. Immediately remove from heat to prevent burning.
- Melt Marshmallows and Add Vanilla: Add the mini marshmallows and vanilla extract to the hot browned butter. Stir continuously until the marshmallows are fully melted and the mixture becomes smooth and glossy.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: Add the Rice Krispies cereal, crushed pretzels, dark chocolate baking chips, and Valentine’s sprinkles to the marshmallow mixture. Gently fold everything together until the cereal and pretzels are evenly coated and the chocolate chips are just beginning to melt.
- Press and Set: Transfer the mixture into a greased 9×11-inch baking dish. Press the mixture down evenly with a spatula or the palm of your hand. Optionally, sprinkle a few extra Valentine’s sprinkles on top for decoration. Allow the treats to set at room temperature for about 30 minutes before slicing into 18 squares and serving.
Notes
- Ensure the butter is browned carefully to avoid burning for the best nutty flavor.
- Use crushed pretzels for even distribution and crunchy texture.
- For meltier chocolate chips, work quickly after mixing to press the treats.
- Sprinkles add festive color but can be omitted or substituted as desired.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
