Ingredients
Brownie Batter
- 1/2 cup (100 grams) granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup (100 grams) brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 tablespoons (55 grams) unsalted butter
- 4 ounces (115 grams) semisweet chocolate, chopped
- 1/4 cup (25 grams) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2/3 cup (80 grams) all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
Peanut Butter Swirl
- 1/2 cup (130 grams) creamy peanut butter
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and grease an 8×8 inch (20×20 cm) baking pan to prevent sticking.
- Mix Sugars, Eggs, Oil and Vanilla: In a medium bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until well combined and smooth. Set aside.
- Melt Butter and Chocolate: In a small saucepan over low heat, continuously stir the unsalted butter and chopped semisweet chocolate until the mixture is fully melted and smooth.
- Add Cocoa Powder: Remove the saucepan from heat and thoroughly whisk in the unsweetened cocoa powder to create a rich chocolate mixture.
- Combine Chocolate and Sugar Mixture: Pour the melted chocolate mixture into the sugar and egg mixture, then whisk until the batter is smooth and uniform.
- Incorporate Dry Ingredients: Gently stir in the all-purpose flour and kosher salt until just combined, avoiding overmixing to keep the brownies tender.
- Prepare the Batter in Pan: Pour the brownie batter evenly into the prepared baking pan, spreading it smoothly.
- Add Peanut Butter Swirl: Microwave the creamy peanut butter briefly until it reaches a pourable but still thick consistency. Dollop the peanut butter over the brownie batter and use a knife to swirl it throughout the batter for a marbled effect.
- Bake: Bake the brownies in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs, indicating fudgy brownies.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before slicing into 16 servings.
Notes
- Be careful not to overbake to maintain a fudgy texture.
- Microwaving the peanut butter makes swirling easier and creates a prettier marbled pattern.
- Use a serrated knife to cut brownies cleanly once cooled.
- Store brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
