Description

These Cookies Façon Cookie Monster are fun and colorful cookies inspired by the beloved character, featuring a blue-tinted dough packed with chunks of Oreo cookies, mini cookies, and chocolate chips. The cookies have a soft center with slightly crispy edges, making them irresistible for any cookie lover or fan of Cookie Monster.

Ingredients

Wet Ingredients

  • 120 g unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 egg, at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Blue gel food coloring

Dry Ingredients

  • 100 g granulated white sugar
  • 50 g brown sugar (light brown sugar or muscovado)
  • 230 g all-purpose flour (T55)
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Add-ins

  • 40 g dark chocolate chips
  • 40 g white chocolate chips
  • 30 g crushed mini cookies
  • 3 Oreo cookies, chopped
  • 12 whole Oreo cookies

Instructions

  1. Cream Butter and Sugars: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter with the white granulated sugar and brown sugar for about 2 minutes until creamy and fluffy.
  2. Add Egg, Vanilla, and Color: Mix in the egg, vanilla extract, and blue gel food coloring with an electric mixer for 1 minute until fully incorporated and the dough is uniformly blue.
  3. Add Dry Ingredients: Sift together the flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda. Gently fold these dry ingredients into the wet mixture with a spatula until just combined into a smooth dough.
  4. Incorporate Cookie and Chocolate Pieces: Quickly fold in the chopped Oreo pieces, crushed mini cookies, white chocolate chips, and dark chocolate chips into the dough.
  5. Chill the Dough: Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes to 1 hour to firm up.
  6. Form Cookie Balls: Scoop small portions of dough and flatten each into a disc in the palm of your hand. Place a whole Oreo in the center, then wrap the dough around the Oreo completely, sealing it inside.
  7. Rest Cookies Before Baking: Place the prepared cookie balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Chill again for about 30 minutes in the fridge or 15 minutes in the freezer to help maintain shape during baking.
  8. Preheat Oven and Bake: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake the cookies for 12 to 15 minutes until the edges are lightly golden but the centers remain soft.
  9. Cool the Cookies: Allow the baked cookies to cool slightly on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack or plate to cool completely.
  10. Enjoy: Serve and enjoy these delightful Cookie Monster-style cookies!

Notes

  • Using gel food coloring gives a vibrant blue color without adding too much liquid.
  • Chilling the dough before and after forming helps the cookies keep their shape and prevents spreading during baking.
  • You can substitute Oreos with your favorite sandwich cookies for different flavors.
  • For softer cookies, do not overbake; remove them when edges are golden but centers still look slightly underbaked.
