Description
These Cowboy Burgers are a hearty and flavorful twist on the classic burger, featuring juicy grilled beef patties topped with melted cheddar cheese, crispy onion rings, and a smoky BBQ mayo sauce. Perfect for a quick and satisfying meal that brings out a rich combination of smoky, tangy, and savory flavors.
Ingredients
For the Burgers
- 1 lb ground beef
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 4 slices cheddar cheese
- 4 brioche buns
For the Sauce
- ½ cup mayo
- ⅓ cup BBQ sauce
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
Toppings
- Onion rings
- Lettuce
- Sliced tomato
Instructions
- Form Patties: Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and shape them into patties. Season both sides generously with salt and pepper to your liking.
- Create Indentation: Press your knuckle into the center of each patty to make an indentation; this helps the burger cook evenly and prevents puffing up.
- Grill Patties: Heat a grill pan over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 5-6 minutes on one side, then flip and cook another 5-6 minutes until fully cooked through. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty to melt.
- Rest Patties: Transfer the cooked patties to a plate and cover with foil to rest while you prepare the sauce. Resting helps the juices redistribute, keeping the burger moist.
- Prepare Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together mayo, BBQ sauce, smoked paprika, Dijon mustard, and garlic powder until smooth and well combined.
- Assemble Burgers: Spread the prepared BBQ mayo sauce on both the top and bottom halves of each brioche bun. Add the rested burger patty, top with crispy onion rings, lettuce, and sliced tomato. Close the bun and serve immediately.
Notes
- Use freshly ground beef for the best flavor and texture.
- For extra smoky flavor, consider using smoked cheddar or adding a dash of liquid smoke to the sauce.
- If you don’t have a grill pan, a cast-iron skillet or outdoor grill works just as well.
- Customize the toppings to your preference—try pickles, jalapeños, or crispy bacon for added texture and taste.
- Allow the burgers to rest after cooking for optimal juiciness.
