Description
A comforting and creamy Dairy-Free Hot Chocolate recipe made with your choice of plant-based milk, rich cocoa powder, and natural sweetener. Perfect for a cozy treat without any dairy, enhanced with optional peppermint extract and dairy-free chocolate chips for extra indulgence.
Ingredients
Hot Chocolate Base
- 2 cups dairy-free milk of choice (coconut, almond, or cashew)
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder (adjust to taste)
- 1-2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
- Small pinch of sea salt
- 1 tablespoon dairy-free chocolate chips (optional)
- Drop of peppermint extract (optional)
Instructions
- Heat the Milk: Add the dairy-free milk to a small pot and place over medium-low heat. Warm the milk gently to avoid boiling, stirring occasionally.
- Mix Ingredients: Whisk in the cocoa powder, pure maple syrup, sea salt, and, if using, the dairy-free chocolate chips and a drop of peppermint extract. Continue to whisk consistently to fully dissolve the cocoa and chocolate chips.
- Warm and Serve: Remove the pot from the stove when the milk is hot and steaming but not boiling. Pour the hot chocolate into mugs and serve immediately, optionally topping with dairy-free whipped cream, mini marshmallows, or crushed candy cane for added flavor and texture.
Notes
- Use medium-low heat to prevent the milk from boiling or scorching.
- Adjust the amount of maple syrup based on your preferred sweetness level.
- For a stronger chocolate flavor, increase cocoa powder or add more chocolate chips.
- Alternative sweeteners like agave or coconut sugar can be used instead of maple syrup.
- Optional toppings such as dairy-free whipped cream and peppermint extract elevate the festive taste.
