Description

This easy and foolproof flapjack recipe creates deliciously chewy oat bars topped with melted milk chocolate. With simple ingredients like butter, golden syrup, brown sugar, and oats, these homemade flapjacks are perfect for a snack or dessert. Baked to golden perfection and drizzled with smooth chocolate, they are sure to satisfy your sweet tooth in just 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Flapjacks

  • 225 g Butter
  • 150 g Golden Syrup
  • 150 g Soft light brown sugar
  • 450 g Oats
  • 1 tsp Salt

Topping

  • 100 g Milk chocolate (melted)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 170℃ fan/190℃/Gas Mark 5 (340°F) to ensure it is at the perfect temperature for baking the flapjacks evenly.
  2. Prepare the Baking Tray: Line a 20×20 cm baking tray with baking parchment to prevent sticking and make removal easier after baking.
  3. Melt Ingredients: In a large pan over low heat, melt the butter, soft light brown sugar, and golden syrup together. Stir continuously until the sugar dissolves completely to create a smooth mixture.
  4. Add Oats and Salt: Remove the pan from the heat, then stir in the oats and salt thoroughly, ensuring every oat flake is coated evenly with the melted mixture.
  5. Transfer to Tray: Pour the oat mixture into the lined baking tin and spread evenly, patting down firmly with the back of a spoon to compact the mixture for proper baking.
  6. Bake: Bake the flapjack mixture in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown but the center remains soft and slightly wobbling.
  7. Cool and Slice: Allow the flapjack to cool completely in the tin to set properly, then remove it and slice into 16 even squares using a sharp knife.
  8. Decorate with Chocolate: Drizzle the melted milk chocolate over the sliced flapjacks and let it set completely before serving to add a sweet finishing touch.

Notes

  • You can substitute butter with margarine for a dairy-free version, but this may affect flavor and texture slightly.
  • Golden syrup adds a rich caramel flavor, but light corn syrup can be used if unavailable.
  • Soft light brown sugar gives sweetness and moisture; dark brown sugar can deepen the flavor.
  • Use rolled oats for the best texture; quick oats might result in a softer flapjack.
  • To melt chocolate easily, place it in a heatproof bowl over simmering water or use a microwave in short bursts, stirring in between.
