Description

This Easy Tuna Pate is a creamy, flavorful spread that combines tender canned tuna with cream cheese, fresh herbs, and a hint of spice. Perfect for a quick snack or appetizer, it takes just 30 minutes to prepare and can be enjoyed with crusty bread or crackers.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 7 oz canned tuna (drained weight, approximately 150g or 5oz)
  • 1/4 cup cream cheese
  • ½ tbsp fresh dill, very finely chopped
  • 2 scallions/spring onions, very finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • ½ lemon zest, finely grated
  • ½ tsp tabasco sauce (optional)
  • ½ tsp sea or kosher salt
  • ½ tsp ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Prepare the tuna: Drain the canned tuna thoroughly. Place it in a food processor and blitz until the tuna is finely chopped but still retains a bit of texture for a pleasant mouthfeel.
  2. Combine ingredients: Transfer the processed tuna into a mixing bowl. Add cream cheese, chopped fresh dill, finely chopped scallions, olive oil, lemon juice, lemon zest, tabasco sauce (if using), salt, and black pepper.
  3. Mix thoroughly: Using a spoon or spatula, mix all the ingredients by hand until they are fully incorporated and the pate has a smooth yet textured consistency.
  4. Serve or store: Serve immediately with crusty bread or crackers for a delightful snack. Alternatively, place the pate into a clean jar, cover, and store in the refrigerator until ready to use. It keeps well for several days when refrigerated.

Notes

  • If you prefer a spicier pate, increase the tabasco sauce quantity to taste.
  • For a lactose-free version, substitute cream cheese with a dairy-free alternative.
  • Fresh herbs like parsley or chives can be added or substituted for dill to vary the flavor.
  • This pate can also be used as a sandwich spread or a dip for vegetable sticks.
  • Ensure tuna is well-drained to prevent the pate from becoming too watery.
