Description

This Easy Whipped Cream Fruit Salad is a delicious and refreshing dessert perfect for any occasion. Fresh apples, grapes, mandarin oranges, strawberries, and bananas are tossed together with homemade whipped cream sweetened with a touch of maple syrup and vanilla. Finished with chocolate chips and optional pomegranate arils, this fruit salad offers a delightful mix of textures and flavors, making it an ideal light treat or side dish.

Ingredients

Fruit

  • 2 medium apples, cut into bite-sized chunks (recommend pink lady, honey crisp, or cosmic crisp)
  • 1 cup red grapes, halved
  • 1 (10.5 ounce) can mandarin oranges, drained and patted dry
  • 1 cup strawberries, quartered
  • 1 large banana, sliced
  • 1/3 cup pomegranate arils (optional)

Whipped Cream Mixture

  • 1 pint heavy whipping cream
  • 1-2 tablespoons pure maple syrup, depending on sweetness preference
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Toppings

  • 1/3 cup chocolate chips
  • Additional banana slices (optional)
  • Additional chocolate chips (optional)
  • Additional pomegranate seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the fruit: Cut the apples into bite-sized chunks without peeling, halve the grapes, quarter the strawberries, and slice the banana. Drain the canned mandarin oranges and pat them dry using a paper towel. Combine all the prepared fruit in a large mixing or serving bowl.
  2. Whip the cream: In a separate bowl, add the heavy whipping cream, maple syrup, and vanilla extract. Using a hand mixer or Kitchenaid stand mixer fitted with a whisk attachment, whip the cream until medium peaks form. Be careful not to over whip to avoid curdling.
  3. Combine whipped cream with fruit: Gently fold the whipped cream into the bowl with the fruit mixture until evenly distributed. This ensures the fruit is coated with a light, fluffy cream without crushing the fruit.
  4. Add chocolate chips and garnish: Fold in the chocolate chips gently. Optionally, top the salad with extra banana slices, chocolate chips, and pomegranate arils for added texture and flavor. Serve the fruit salad immediately for best freshness.

Notes

  • Use firm apples like pink lady or honey crisp for the best texture and flavor.
  • Don’t over whip the cream – medium peaks are ideal to keep the salad light and fluffy.
  • Pomegranate arils are optional but add a nice crunch and color contrast.
  • Serve immediately to maintain freshness and texture, as the fruit salad may become watery if left too long.
  • Maple syrup can be adjusted to taste or substituted with honey for sweetness.
