Description
A comforting and easy-to-make French Fry Casserole featuring lean ground beef, creamy golden mushroom and cheddar cheese soups, topped with crispy golden crinkle-cut french fries. Perfect for a satisfying family dinner.
Ingredients
Meat
- 2 pounds lean ground beef (90% lean)
Soup
- 1 can (10-3/4 ounces) condensed golden mushroom soup, undiluted
- 1 can (10-3/4 ounces) condensed cheddar cheese soup, undiluted
Topping
- 1 package (20 ounces) frozen crinkle-cut french fries
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare it for baking the casserole.
- Cook the ground beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook and crumble the lean ground beef until it is no longer pink. Drain excess fat thoroughly to keep the casserole lean.
- Mix soups with beef: Stir in the undiluted golden mushroom soup and cheddar cheese soup into the cooked beef until well combined.
- Prepare the baking dish: Grease a 13×9-inch baking dish to prevent sticking. Pour the beef and soup mixture evenly into the dish.
- Add the french fries topping: Arrange the frozen crinkle-cut french fries evenly over the beef mixture in the baking dish.
- Bake: Bake the casserole uncovered in the preheated oven for 50 to 55 minutes, or until the french fries are golden brown and cooked through.
- Serve: Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving to enjoy a delicious, hearty meal.
Notes
- Make sure to drain the beef well to avoid excess grease in the casserole.
- Using undiluted soups keeps the casserole thicker and creamier.
- For crispier fries, you can broil the casserole for an additional 2-3 minutes at the end, watching carefully to prevent burning.
- This casserole can be prepared in advance and refrigerated before baking.
- Feel free to add diced onions or bell peppers to the beef mixture for extra flavor and nutrition.
