Description

A comforting and easy-to-make French Fry Casserole featuring lean ground beef, creamy golden mushroom and cheddar cheese soups, topped with crispy golden crinkle-cut french fries. Perfect for a satisfying family dinner.

Ingredients

Meat

  • 2 pounds lean ground beef (90% lean)

Soup

  • 1 can (10-3/4 ounces) condensed golden mushroom soup, undiluted
  • 1 can (10-3/4 ounces) condensed cheddar cheese soup, undiluted

Topping

  • 1 package (20 ounces) frozen crinkle-cut french fries

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare it for baking the casserole.
  2. Cook the ground beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook and crumble the lean ground beef until it is no longer pink. Drain excess fat thoroughly to keep the casserole lean.
  3. Mix soups with beef: Stir in the undiluted golden mushroom soup and cheddar cheese soup into the cooked beef until well combined.
  4. Prepare the baking dish: Grease a 13×9-inch baking dish to prevent sticking. Pour the beef and soup mixture evenly into the dish.
  5. Add the french fries topping: Arrange the frozen crinkle-cut french fries evenly over the beef mixture in the baking dish.
  6. Bake: Bake the casserole uncovered in the preheated oven for 50 to 55 minutes, or until the french fries are golden brown and cooked through.
  7. Serve: Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving to enjoy a delicious, hearty meal.

Notes

  • Make sure to drain the beef well to avoid excess grease in the casserole.
  • Using undiluted soups keeps the casserole thicker and creamier.
  • For crispier fries, you can broil the casserole for an additional 2-3 minutes at the end, watching carefully to prevent burning.
  • This casserole can be prepared in advance and refrigerated before baking.
  • Feel free to add diced onions or bell peppers to the beef mixture for extra flavor and nutrition.
