Ingredients
Vegetables
- 1 yellow onion, finely diced
- 1 small head green cabbage, cored and coarsely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- Sliced green onions, for garnish (optional)
Seasonings & Oils
- 2 teaspoons olive oil
- Salt and fresh ground pepper, to taste
- ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes, or to taste
Instructions
- Heat oil and sauté onion: In a large nonstick skillet over medium heat, add 2 teaspoons of olive oil. Once heated, add the finely diced yellow onion. Cook for about 2 minutes, stirring occasionally until the onion becomes translucent and fragrant.
- Add cabbage and garlic: Stir in the coarsely chopped green cabbage and the minced garlic. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste, and stir to combine all ingredients evenly.
- Cook until tender: Continue cooking the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage softens and becomes just tender, approximately 6 to 8 minutes. Be careful not to overcook to retain some texture.
- Garnish and serve: Remove from heat and sprinkle crushed red pepper flakes over the cabbage for a bit of heat. Garnish with sliced green onions if desired. Serve warm as a flavorful side dish.
