Description
A quick and flavorful Ground Chicken Tacos recipe featuring seasoned sautéed chicken served with tortillas, shredded cheddar and Monterey jack cheese, fresh salsa, avocado, and your favorite taco toppings. Ready in just 25 minutes, this easy stovetop dish is perfect for a weeknight meal.
Ingredients
For the Ground Chicken
- 1 pound ground chicken (or ground turkey)
- 2-3 tablespoons taco seasoning
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 tablespoons water
To Serve
- Tortillas
- Freshly shredded cheddar cheese
- Freshly shredded Monterey jack cheese
- Salsa
- Avocado, sliced
- Additional taco fixins as preferred (lettuce, sour cream, jalapeños, cilantro, lime wedges)
Instructions
- Heat the oil: Warm 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering and ready for cooking.
- Cook the meat: Add 1 pound of ground chicken to the skillet and sauté for about 5 minutes, using the back of a wooden spoon to break the meat into small pieces as it cooks.
- Season the meat: Sprinkle 2-3 tablespoons of taco seasoning over the chicken and stir well to coat evenly. Continue cooking, breaking down any clumps, until the chicken is fully cooked with no pink remaining.
- Simmer the mixture: Pour in 2 tablespoons of water, reduce the heat to a simmer, and let the meat cook gently for 10 minutes. This helps the flavors meld and ensures the meat is tender.
- Assemble tacos: Spoon the seasoned chicken onto warm tortillas, then top with freshly shredded cheddar and Monterey jack cheeses, salsa, avocado slices, and any other favorite taco toppings you prefer.
Notes
- Ground turkey can be used as a leaner alternative to chicken.
- Adjust taco seasoning amount to taste or use a homemade blend.
- To keep tortillas warm, wrap them in foil and heat in a low oven while the meat simmers.
- For extra creaminess, add a dollop of sour cream or Greek yogurt on top.
- Leftover taco meat can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and used in salads or burrito bowls.
