Description

Delightfully fun and easy-to-make Heart Shaped Pop Tarts featuring a homemade pie crust filled with sweet strawberry jam and topped with a light strawberry glaze. Perfect for a festive breakfast or snack, these pop tarts combine a flaky crust with a vibrant fruity filling and a beautiful glaze finish.

Ingredients

Pie Crust

  • 9 ounce box of Jiffy pie crust mix
  • 4-5 Tablespoons water

Filling

  • 4 Tablespoons strawberry jam (about 1/2 tablespoon per pop tart)

Sealing

  • Water (to seal the pop tarts)

Glaze

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1-2 Tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon strawberry jam (optional, for color and flavor)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (204°C) to ensure it’s ready for baking the pop tarts perfectly.
  2. Prepare Dough: In a large bowl, add the Jiffy pie crust mix. Gradually add water 1 tablespoon at a time, mixing with a fork until the dough forms. Divide the dough into two balls for easier rolling.
  3. Roll Dough: Roll out one dough ball at a time on a well-floured surface into a circle about 10 inches in diameter.
  4. Cut Heart Shapes: Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter about 4 inches wide to stamp out as many heart shapes as possible from each dough circle. Collect scraps, re-roll, and cut more hearts to yield 14 hearts total (7 pop tarts).
  5. Fill Hearts: Place 7 dough hearts onto a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Spoon about 1/2 tablespoon of strawberry jam onto each heart, spreading slightly but leaving a 1/4-inch border around the edges.
  6. Seal Pop Tarts: Lightly brush the edges of each heart with water. Place another heart-shaped dough piece on top and gently press the edges together using the tines of a fork to crimp and seal the jam inside.
  7. Bake: Bake the sealed pop tarts in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes, or until they are set and lightly golden.
  8. Make Glaze: Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and optional strawberry jam until smooth. Add red food coloring if a brighter pink glaze is desired, using sparingly.
  9. Glaze Pop Tarts: While the pop tarts are still warm, transfer them to a wire rack over a baking tray. Spoon the glaze over each pop tart and let excess drip off. Optionally, top immediately with sprinkles before the glaze sets.

Notes

  • Use a silpat baking mat or parchment paper to prevent sticking and ease cleanup.
  • Make sure to leave a border around the jam to prevent leakage during baking.
  • Adjust glaze consistency with more milk or powdered sugar to your preference.
  • Adding red food coloring to the glaze is optional but enhances the pink color.
  • Serve warm or allow to cool completely; both are delightful.
