Description

This Homemade Blackberry Butter is a luscious, fruit-infused spread blending fresh blackberries with rich unsalted butter and a hint of powdered sugar. Perfect for adding a sweet and tangy twist to toast, muffins, or scones, this butter is smooth, fluffy, and bursting with natural berry flavor. Easy to make in just 15 minutes, it’s a delightful way to elevate your breakfast or snack time with a fresh, homemade touch.

Ingredients

Fruit

  • 12 small to medium fresh blackberries

Butter Mixture

  • ½ cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 3 tablespoons (23g) powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Smash the Blackberries: Add the fresh blackberries to a medium-sized bowl. Using a fork or potato masher, thoroughly crush the berries until they separate into seeds, flesh, and juice.
  2. Strain the Juice: Pour the smashed blackberry mixture through a fine mesh sieve to separate the juice from the seeds and pulp. You should collect approximately ¼ cup of blackberry juice. Discard the remaining seeds and pulp.
  3. Mix Butter and Sugar with Juice: In a mixing bowl, combine the softened unsalted butter and powdered sugar. Add the strained blackberry juice. Use a handheld mixer or a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment to beat the mixture until it becomes smooth, fluffy, and fully incorporated.
  4. Store or Serve: Your blackberry butter is ready to enjoy immediately. For longer-term storage, refrigerate the butter in a serving dish or roll it into a log wrapped in plastic wrap for an elegant presentation. Keep refrigerated for up to 2 weeks or freeze for up to 6 months.

Notes

  • Ensure the butter is softened to room temperature before mixing for optimal smoothness.
  • Use fresh blackberries for the best natural flavor; frozen berries may alter the texture.
  • Adjust powdered sugar quantity to taste if you prefer a sweeter or less sweet butter.
  • Blackberry butter makes an excellent gift when shaped into a log and wrapped nicely.
  • Store in an airtight container to maintain freshness and prevent absorption of fridge odors.
