Ingredients
Brownie Batter
- 12 tablespoons (170 grams) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 1/4 cup (266 grams) brown sugar, packed
- 2 large (100 grams) eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cup (180 grams) all purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon matcha powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
Add-ins
- 1 cup (170 grams) white chocolate, chopped
Instructions
- Prepare the pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spray an 8×8 inch baking pan with non-stick spray and lay thick strips of parchment paper across the bottom in a cross shape to make lifting the baked brownies out easier once cooled.
- Mix wet ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine the melted butter and brown sugar using a hand mixer until fully blended. Add the eggs and vanilla extract and continue beating until the mixture is light in color and well combined.
- Combine dry ingredients: In a separate small bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, matcha powder, and salt. This helps remove any lumps and ensures even distribution.
- Mix wet and dry ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, mixing gently just until combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can result in tough brownies.
- Fold in white chocolate: Gently fold the chopped white chocolate into the batter, ensuring it’s evenly distributed throughout.
- Bake the brownies: Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and smooth the top. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes. For a firmer texture, bake a few minutes longer but watch to avoid overbaking.
- Cool and serve: Remove the brownies from the oven and allow them to cool completely in the pan before lifting out using the parchment paper. Cut into 16 squares and enjoy!
Notes
- Using parchment paper strips makes removing the brownies from the pan effortless and keeps them intact.
- Do not overmix the batter to keep the brownies tender and fudgy.
- Adjust baking time depending on your preferred brownie firmness—shorter for more fudgy, longer for cakey.
- White chocolate pieces add a creamy sweetness that balances the earthy matcha flavor.
- Matcha powder quality greatly affects the flavor, so choose a high-quality culinary matcha for best results.
