Ingredients
Chocolate Donuts
- ¼ cup (50 g) light brown sugar
- ⅓ cup (67 g) white sugar
- ¼ cup (54 ml) sunflower oil (or other neutral oil)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 egg
- 1 cup (125 g) all-purpose flour
- ⅓ cup (28.67 g) cocoa powder
- ⅛ tsp salt
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp baking powder
- ½ cup (125 ml) milk (regular or dairy free)
- 4 Oreo Cookies, crushed into crumbs
Oreo Glaze
- 1⅛ cup (135 g) icing sugar (powdered sugar), (regular or dairy free)
- ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 tablespoons (47 ml) milk (regular or dairy free)
- 1½ tablespoons (20 g) butter, softened (regular or dairy free)
- 3-5 Oreo cookies, crushed and crumbled, plus more chunks for topping
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease donut pans using cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the sunflower oil, white sugar, and light brown sugar until well combined. Add the egg and vanilla extract, continuing to whisk until smooth. Then whisk in the milk.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: Add the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, salt, baking powder, and baking soda to the wet ingredients. Mix gently until just combined; avoid over mixing to keep donuts tender.
- Add Oreo Crumbs: Fold in the crushed Oreo cookie crumbs carefully into the batter until evenly distributed.
- Fill Donut Pan: Place the batter into a ziplock bag, cut off a corner, and pipe the batter into the greased donut cavities, filling each about halfway.
- Bake Donuts: Bake in the preheated oven for 7-10 minutes or until the donuts spring back when lightly pressed or a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let them cool in the pan for a few minutes.
- Cool Completely: Transfer the donuts to a wire rack and let them cool completely. Place a baking sheet or parchment paper underneath the rack to catch any glaze drips.
- Prepare Oreo Glaze: In a shallow bowl, whisk together the icing sugar, vanilla extract, milk, and softened butter until smooth. Add the crushed Oreo crumbs and mix gently.
- Glaze Donuts: Dip each cooled donut top into the Oreo glaze to coat thoroughly. Sprinkle additional Oreo crumbs and chunks on top for decoration.
- Set Glaze: Allow the glaze to set before serving. Enjoy your freshly baked Oreo Donuts!
Notes
- Use a kitchen scale for accurate measurement of dry ingredients to ensure consistent results.
- Measure all-purpose flour and cocoa powder using the scoop and level method or a kitchen scale to avoid dense donuts.
- Donuts are best enjoyed the same day they are made, but can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
- Note that the glaze may start to melt in warm or humid climates, so keep them in a cool place.
