Description

These Pine Cone Truffles are a delightful and creative chocolate treat made from a base of chocolate sheet cake rolled into cone shapes and covered in chocolate Frosted Flakes to mimic a pine cone’s texture. Coated in melted chocolate almond bark and dusted with powdered sugar, they offer a festive and fun dessert perfect for holiday gatherings or special occasions.

Ingredients

Truffle Base

  • 1 9×13 Chocolate Sheet Cake (prepared)
  • 2 cups Chocolate Frosted Flakes
  • 2 tablespoons Powdered Sugar (for dusting)

Coating

  • 12 ounces Chocolate Almond Bark

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cake Dough: Remove your freshly baked 9×13 chocolate sheet cake from the oven and immediately place it into a stand mixer. Turn the mixer on high and mix until the cake starts to form a dough-like consistency. Carefully remove the dough and knead it into a ball; it may still be warm to the touch.
  2. Shape the Truffles: Divide the dough into 2-inch balls. Using your hands, shape each ball into a cone shape with a flat bottom to resemble a pine cone.
  3. Apply Cereal Decorations: Begin pressing the Chocolate Frosted Flakes onto the dough cones, starting at the bottom and working your way upwards. Select round-shaped flakes and press them diagonally upward to imitate pine cone scales.
  4. Freeze to Set: Place the decorated pine cones in the freezer for one hour to firm up before coating.
  5. Melt the Almond Bark: Melt the 12 ounces of chocolate almond bark in the microwave using one-minute intervals, stirring between each, until smooth and fully melted.
  6. Coat the Pine Cones: Using a fork, dip each frozen pine cone into the melted almond bark, then use a spoon to cover the top thoroughly. Remove it with the fork and gently shake off the excess chocolate. Place the coated pine cones onto parchment paper to set.
  7. Final Firming: Return the chocolate-coated pine cones to the freezer for 10 minutes or until the chocolate coating hardens.
  8. Finishing Touch: Once set, sprinkle the pine cone truffles lightly with powdered sugar to give a snowy effect.

Notes

  • For best results, use Chocolate Frosted Flakes that are round and sturdy for easier attachment to the dough.
  • The cake dough may be warm after mixing; handle carefully to avoid burns.
  • Ensure the almond bark is fully melted and smooth to achieve an even coating.
  • Store finished truffles in the freezer or refrigerator to maintain firmness until serving.
