Description

This Protein Puppy Chow recipe is a delicious and nutritious twist on the classic snack, combining crunchy Rice Chex cereal with a rich blend of chocolate, peanut butter, and vanilla protein powder. Perfect for a high-protein treat that’s easy to prepare and great for snacking or post-workout energy.

Ingredients

Chocolate Mixture

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup all-natural drippy peanut butter
  • 2 teaspoons coconut oil

Cereal and Coating

  • 6-7 cups Rice Chex cereal
  • 1 cup vanilla protein powder

Instructions

  1. Melt Chocolate and Peanut Butter: Add chocolate chips, peanut butter, and coconut oil to a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 20-second increments, stirring after each increment, until the mixture is fully melted and glossy, about 2 minutes total.
  2. Coat First Layer of Cereal: Pour 3 cups of Rice Chex into a large bowl. Pour half of the melted chocolate and peanut butter mixture over the cereal and gently fold together until all pieces are evenly coated.
  3. Coat Second Layer of Cereal: Add the remaining Rice Chex to the bowl and pour over the remaining melted mixture. Fold again until all pieces are coated, noting that some clumps of cereal may form.
  4. Add Protein Powder Coating: To coat the cereal with protein powder, either keep the mixture in the bowl or transfer it to a paper bag. Add ½ cup of vanilla protein powder and gently stir or shake until coated. Repeat with the remaining ½ cup of protein powder to ensure an even coating.
  5. Cool and Store: Allow the coated puppy chow to cool completely before storing it in an airtight container. Keep in a cool, dry place to maintain crispness and freshness.

Notes

  • Use a high-quality vanilla protein powder for the best flavor and smooth coating.
  • If you prefer a sweeter puppy chow, consider adding a tablespoon of powdered sugar or adjusting the amount of protein powder.
  • Ensure the melted mixture is not too hot when mixing with cereal to avoid sogginess.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to one week for optimal freshness.
  • This snack is great for meal prep or an on-the-go energy boost.
