Description

These Puff Pastry Cinnamon Rolls are a quick and easy twist on the classic cinnamon rolls, using flaky puff pastry sheets for a light and buttery texture. Topped with a sweet vanilla glaze and optional chopped walnuts, they’re perfect for a delicious breakfast or dessert that comes together in under an hour.

Ingredients

For the Cinnamon Rolls:

  • 1 Sheet Frozen Puff Pastry (a box usually contains two sheets)
  • 1 Tablespoon Salted Butter, melted
  • 3 Tablespoons Dark Brown Sugar (light or golden would work too)
  • ½ Tablespoon Ground Cinnamon
  • ¼ Cup Finely Chopped Walnuts, optional add-in

For the Vanilla Glaze:

  • ½ Cup Powdered Sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon Salted Butter, melted and cooled to room temperature
  • ½ Teaspoon Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 1-2 Tablespoons Whole Milk (2% milk would work too)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Baking Sheet: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. Melt Butter: In a small bowl, melt the butter in the microwave on high for 20 to 30 seconds, or alternatively melt it in a small saucepan on medium to high heat for about 3 to 5 minutes until just melted without bubbling. Remove from heat.
  3. Mix Cinnamon Sugar: In another small bowl, combine the dark brown sugar and ground cinnamon. If using walnuts, mix them in as well.
  4. Roll Out Puff Pastry: Ensure the puff pastry is cold but no longer frozen. Lightly flour your work surface and place the pastry on it. Gently roll the edges to seal any cracks or breaks. Using a pastry brush, evenly spread the melted butter over the top of the pastry. Then sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the buttered surface.
  5. Cut and Roll Strips: Using a pizza cutter, slice the pastry into 8 even strips. Roll each strip tightly into a spiral shape and place each roll onto the prepared parchment-lined baking sheet, spaced slightly apart.
  6. Bake: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the cinnamon rolls for 20 to 22 minutes or until puffed up and golden brown.
  7. Prepare Vanilla Glaze: While the rolls bake, combine powdered sugar, melted and cooled butter, pure vanilla extract, and 1 to 2 tablespoons of whole milk in a medium bowl. Whisk until smooth and slightly drizzle-consistent.
  8. Glaze and Serve: Once rolls are done baking, allow them to cool slightly on the pan. Pour and spread the vanilla glaze over the warm cinnamon rolls before serving. Enjoy immediately.
  9. Storage: Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days.

Notes

  • Make sure the puff pastry is cold but thawed enough to roll smoothly without cracking.
  • You can substitute dark brown sugar with light or golden brown sugar for a milder sweetness.
  • Adding walnuts is optional but provides a nice crunch and flavor contrast.
  • Adjust the thickness of the glaze by adding more or less milk to achieve your preferred consistency.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute butter and milk with plant-based alternatives.
  • Serve these cinnamon rolls warm for the best texture and flavor.
