Description

These Rice Krispie Treat Footballs are a fun and festive twist on the classic treat, perfect for game day or any sports-themed celebration. Made with cocoa-flavored Rice Krispies, melted marshmallows, and decorated with white chocolate laces, they are easy to shape and sure to delight both kids and adults alike.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 5 tablespoons salted butter
  • 6 cups mini marshmallows
  • 6 cups cocoa krispies cereal
  • 1 cup white chocolate wafers (such as Ghirardelli)

Instructions

  1. Melt the Butter and Marshmallows: In a large pot over medium heat, melt the butter completely. Stir in the mini marshmallows and continue cooking while stirring until the marshmallows are fully melted and combined with the butter.
  2. Add the Cocoa Krispies: Stir in the cocoa krispies cereal thoroughly, making sure every piece is coated with the marshmallow mixture.
  3. Prepare the Work Surface: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly spray your hands with cooking spray to prevent sticking during shaping.
  4. Shape the Footballs: Take about 2 heaping tablespoons of the mixture into the palm of your hand and shape it into a football shape. Place each football on the parchment-lined baking sheet to cool.
  5. Repeat Shaping: Continue shaping the remaining mixture into footballs, spraying your hands as needed to avoid sticking.
  6. Cool the Footballs: Allow the shaped footballs to cool to room temperature so they can set firmly.
  7. Melt the White Chocolate: Place the white chocolate wafers in a microwave-safe bowl and melt in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until fully smooth.
  8. Pipe the Laces: Transfer the melted white chocolate to a zip-top bag, cut a small corner off, and pipe lace details onto each football to mimic real football laces. Allow the chocolate laces to cool and harden.
  9. Storage: Store the finished footballs in an airtight container for up to 48 hours or serve them immediately.

Notes

  • Use cooking spray on your hands to make shaping the sticky mixture easier.
  • Allow the treats to cool completely before adding the white chocolate laces to ensure clean decoration.
  • Store treated footballs at room temperature in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
  • You can substitute regular Rice Krispies with cocoa krispies for a chocolate flavor.
  • For extra flavor, you may add a pinch of salt or a splash of vanilla extract to the marshmallow mixture if desired.
