Ingredients
Meat Sauce
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 medium yellow onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- ½ cup beef broth
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 24 oz jar Marinara Sauce
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
Pasta
- 4 oz spaghetti noodles
Bread Bowls & Topping
- 6 Kaiser rolls
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley
- 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper to prepare for baking the bread bowls.
- Cook Meat Mixture: In a large pot over medium-high heat, add the ground beef, diced onion, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper. Use a wooden spoon to chop and stir the meat until it is no longer pink and the onions are softened.
- Add Liquids and Simmer Sauce: Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring well and scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pot. Then stir in the tomato paste, marinara sauce, and Italian seasoning. Reduce heat to low, cover the pot, and let the sauce simmer gently for 20 minutes to meld flavors.
- Cook Spaghetti: Meanwhile, cook the spaghetti noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain well and then fold the spaghetti into the sauce, stirring gently to coat all noodles. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Prepare Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, mix the melted unsalted butter with garlic powder, salt, and dried parsley until combined.
- Hollow Out Rolls and Toast: Using a serrated knife, slice the tops off the Kaiser rolls. Hollow out the centers carefully with your fingers, leaving about a ¼-inch thick bread wall inside each roll. Brush every hollowed roll inside with the prepared garlic butter mixture. Arrange the rolls on the parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes until just lightly toasted.
- Assemble and Bake Bowls: Place a pinch of shredded mozzarella cheese inside each bread bowl. Spoon the saucy spaghetti evenly into each roll, filling them generously. Top each filled bowl with the remaining mozzarella cheese. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 8 to 10 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbling.
Notes
- Use day-old or slightly stale Kaiser rolls to prevent sogginess when hollowed out.
- For a vegetarian option, omit the ground beef and substitute vegetable broth with mushroom or vegetable marinara sauce.
- Leftover spaghetti bowls can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheated in the oven for crispness.
- Feel free to add red pepper flakes to the sauce for a spicy kick.
- Additional toppings like parmesan cheese or chopped fresh basil can enhance flavor.
