Description

Enjoy a delightful and healthier twist on classic bagels with these Strawberry Cottage Cheese Bagels. Made with blended cottage cheese and infused with natural freeze-dried strawberry powder, these bagels are fluffy, slightly sweet, and perfect for a nutritious breakfast or snack. Cooked quickly and evenly in an air fryer, they offer a convenient and delicious treat that’s easy to prepare.

Ingredients

Bagel Dough

  • 1 cup blended cottage cheese
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon sea salt
  • 3 tablespoons freeze-dried strawberry powder
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar

Topping

  • 1 large egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 350℉ to ensure it reaches the proper temperature for even cooking of the bagels.
  2. Mix the Dough: In a large bowl, combine the blended cottage cheese, all-purpose flour, baking powder, sea salt, freeze-dried strawberry powder, and brown sugar. Use a silicone or wooden spoon to stir until the ingredients are well combined. Then, use your hands to press together the mixture until a dough ball forms.
  3. Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough ball to a floured work surface. Knead the dough gently until it becomes smooth and pliable. Sprinkle additional flour on the top and bottom as needed to prevent sticking.
  4. Shape the Bagels: Divide the dough into 4 equal portions. Roll each piece into a ball and lightly flatten it. Using the end of a rounded spoon or your finger, poke a hole in the center of the flattened dough and stretch it carefully to maintain the hole, ensuring it doesn’t close during air frying.
  5. Apply Egg Wash: Brush the tops and bottoms of each shaped bagel with the beaten egg. This will give them a lovely glossy finish after cooking.
  6. Air Fry the Bagels: Line the air fryer basket with parchment paper to prevent sticking. Place the bagels inside and air fry for 6 minutes. Flip the bagels carefully and air fry for an additional 6 minutes to cook evenly on both sides. Depending on your air fryer size, you may need to cook them in two batches.
  7. Cool Before Serving: Once cooked, remove the bagels from the air fryer and let them cool on a wire rack or plate for about 5 minutes to finish setting.
  8. Serve: Enjoy the Strawberry Cottage Cheese Bagels warm or at room temperature with your favorite bagel toppings such as cream cheese, fresh fruit, or honey.

Notes

  • Blending the cottage cheese before mixing ensures a smoother dough texture.
  • Be gentle when stretching the hole in the bagel to prevent tearing.
  • You can substitute brown sugar with coconut sugar for a healthier alternative.
  • These bagels are best enjoyed the day they are made but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
  • Reheat in the air fryer for 2-3 minutes to refresh before serving.
