Ingredients
Jam Ingredients
- 2 cups strawberries, fresh or frozen
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 Tbsp chia seeds
- 1 Tbsp rose water
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 Tbsp pure maple syrup
Instructions
- Prepare Strawberries: If using fresh strawberries, wash them thoroughly and remove the stems. Slice the berries into halves or quarters depending on their size to ensure even cooking and easy mashing.
- Cook Strawberries: In a small saucepan, combine the sliced strawberries and water. Place the pan over medium heat and mash the strawberries with a fork as they cook, stirring continuously until they begin to break down and release their juices, about 5 minutes.
- Add Chia Seeds and Flavorings: Add the chia seeds, rose water, vanilla extract, and pure maple syrup to the saucepan with the softened strawberries. Continue to cook and mash the mixture for approximately 5 more minutes, allowing the chia seeds to absorb moisture and help thicken the jam.
- Cool and Thicken: Remove the saucepan from heat and let the chia jam cool for about 10 minutes. During this time, the chia seeds will swell and the jam will achieve a thick, spreadable consistency.
- Store the Jam: Transfer the cooled chia jam into a clean glass jar or airtight container. Store it in the refrigerator for up to two weeks and enjoy it as a delicious and nutritious topping or spread.
Notes
- Use ripe and sweet strawberries for the best flavor.
- Adjust sweetness by adding more or less maple syrup according to your preference.
- If you prefer a smoother jam, mash the strawberries more thoroughly or pulse in a blender briefly before cooking.
- The jam will thicken further as it cools and when refrigerated.
- Make sure to store the jam in a sterilized jar to extend shelf life.
