Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 1 pound turkey breakfast sausage, cooked and crumbled
- 30 ounces frozen tater tots
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
- 8 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 ½ teaspoons seasoned salt
- ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
Optional Garnish
- Freshly chopped green onions
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 350ºF (175ºC). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking and set it aside.
- Cook Sausage: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the turkey breakfast sausage until fully browned and cooked through, breaking it into crumbles as it cooks. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
- Combine Tater Tots, Sausage, and Cheese: Spread the frozen tater tots evenly in the prepared baking dish. Add the cooked, crumbled sausage on top, then sprinkle 1½ cups of shredded cheddar cheese over the mixture. Gently stir to combine the ingredients evenly.
- Whisk Egg Mixture: In a medium bowl, whisk together the 8 large eggs, 1 cup of milk, 1 ½ teaspoons seasoned salt, and ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper until well combined and slightly frothy.
- Pour and Top: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the tater tots, sausage, and cheese layer in the baking dish. Sprinkle the remaining ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese evenly on top.
- Bake: Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 50 minutes, or until the eggs are set and the top is golden brown around the edges.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove the casserole from the oven and allow it to cool slightly before serving. Garnish with freshly chopped green onions, if desired, and serve warm.
Notes
- For extra flavor, you can add diced onions or bell peppers to the sausage while cooking.
- You may substitute turkey sausage with pork sausage if preferred.
- Seasoned salt contains salt and other spices – adjust salt addition accordingly based on taste preferences.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
- For a dairy-free version, use a suitable milk alternative and dairy-free cheese.
