Description

Texas Trash Dip is a hearty, cheesy, and flavorful baked dip perfect for game days or parties. Combining ground beef, refried beans, cream cheese, sour cream, taco seasoning, and a blend of cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses, this warm dip is topped with jalapeños, black olives, and fresh cilantro, served with crispy tortilla chips for dipping.

Ingredients

Meat

  • 1 Pound ground beef (or sausage, cooked and drained)

Base

  • 2 Cans refried beans
  • 8 Ounces cream cheese (softened)
  • 1 Cup sour cream
  • 1 Envelope taco seasoning
  • 1 Can green chilies (diced)

Cheese

  • 1 Cup Cheddar cheese (shredded)
  • 1 Cup Monterey Jack cheese (shredded)

Toppings

  • Jalapeños (sliced)
  • Black olives (sliced)
  • Fresh cilantro

Serve with

  • Tortilla chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F to get it ready for baking the dip.
  2. Prepare the bean mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the refried beans, softened cream cheese, sour cream, taco seasoning, and diced green chilies. Stir well until the mixture is smooth and evenly blended.
  3. Add meat and cheese: Stir in the cooked and drained ground beef (or sausage) and about three-quarters of the shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses into the bean mixture, mixing thoroughly.
  4. Spread in baking dish: Transfer the mixture evenly into a baking dish and then sprinkle the remaining cheese over the top to create a cheesy crust.
  5. Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the dip is hot, bubbly, and melted throughout.
  6. Cool slightly: Remove the dip from the oven and let it cool for 5 to 10 minutes to allow it to set slightly and to avoid burning your mouth.
  7. Add toppings and serve: Garnish the dip with sliced jalapeños, black olives, and fresh cilantro to add brightness and extra flavor. Serve warm with tortilla chips for dipping.

Notes

  • Use ground sausage instead of beef for a different flavor profile.
  • For a spicier kick, add more jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce into the dip mixture.
  • Softening the cream cheese beforehand ensures easier mixing and a smoother texture.
  • This dip can be prepared ahead and refrigerated; bake just before serving.
  • For a lighter version, substitute sour cream with Greek yogurt.
