Description
These Tuna Patties are a quick and tasty way to enjoy canned tuna transformed into golden, crispy patties. Perfect for a light lunch or dinner, they combine simple pantry ingredients like green onions, parsley, breadcrumbs, and seasonings, pan-fried to perfection for delightful texture and flavor.
Ingredients
Fresh Herbs and Vegetables
- 2 green onions, chopped
- 2 Tbsp chopped parsley (optional)
Main Ingredients
- 1 12oz. can chunk light tuna in water, drained
- 1/2 cup plain breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 2 Tbsp mayonnaise
- 1.5 tsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp seasoning salt
Cooking
- 2 Tbsp cooking oil
Instructions
- Prep the herbs and tuna: Roughly chop the parsley and green onions. Drain the canned tuna thoroughly to remove excess water, which helps the patties hold together better during cooking.
- Mix ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the drained tuna, chopped green onions, parsley, breadcrumbs, egg, mayonnaise, seasoning salt, and lemon juice. Mix gently until just combined to avoid breaking down the tuna too much and to ensure even distribution of flavors.
- Form patties: Divide the mixture into four equal portions. Shape each portion carefully into a patty, pressing gently so they hold their shape but are not too compact.
- Cook the patties: Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the cooking oil and swirl to coat the skillet evenly. Place the tuna patties in the skillet and cook for about 5 minutes on each side, or until they develop a golden brown, slightly crisp crust.
- Serve: Serve the patties warm, either over a bed of fresh greens or stuffed into pita bread for a delicious and satisfying meal.
Notes
- Be careful not to overmix the tuna mixture to avoid dense patties.
- Drain the tuna well to prevent soggy patties.
- You can substitute mayonnaise with Greek yogurt for a lighter option.
- If you prefer, seasonings salt can be replaced with a mix of salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- Serve with a side of fresh salad or your favorite dipping sauce.
