Ingredients
Marshmallows
- 9 regular size marshmallows
- 12 mini marshmallows (for bears’ ears and snouts)
Chocolate
- ½ cup Belgian milk chocolate (measure before melting)
- 1½ cups Belgian white chocolate (measure before melting)
Decorations
- Oil-based candy color for coloring chocolate (red and pink for accent marshmallows)
- Edible food marker (black)
- Valentine-themed sprinkles (assorted, including heart-shaped and gold pearls)
Instructions
- Prepare chocolate: In a deep microwave-safe bowl or mason jar, melt ½ cup milk chocolate and ½ cup white chocolate in 20-second increments, stirring well after each until smooth and fully melted.
- Setup: Line a baking sheet or plate with wax paper and set aside for placing dipped marshmallows.
- Insert stick: Insert a paper straw or lollipop stick into the base of each large marshmallow to serve as a handle.
- Cut mini marshmallows: Using kitchen shears or a sharp knife, cut 3 mini marshmallows in half to create enough halves for ears and snouts for 2 bears.
- Assemble ears and snout (Mr Bear): Attach two mini marshmallow halves sticky side down to the top of a large marshmallow for ears, and add another half mini marshmallow where the snout should be.
- Dip Mr Bear: Carefully dip the assembled bear head in the melted chocolate, focusing on coating the back and sides first, then spoon chocolate over the front to cover the face and snout evenly. Allow excess chocolate to drip back.
- Chill: Place the dipped bear head on the wax paper-lined plate and refrigerate or freeze 5 to 10 minutes to set the chocolate.
- Decorate Mr Bear: Use the edible black marker to draw the bear’s face once the chocolate has set. Apply a small dab of chocolate at the base of the neck and stick two heart sprinkles point-to-point to form a bow tie. Add a gold pearl in the center with another bit of chocolate.
- Color cheeks: Tint remaining white chocolate pink using candy color. Use a cocktail stick to apply pink cheeks to the bear and let set.
- Assemble Mrs Bear: Repeat the steps of inserting a stick, adding ears and snout with mini marshmallows using the reserved halves, then dip, coat, and chill as before.
- Decorate Mrs Bear: Draw the face using the edible marker. Add a flower decoration by applying a bit of chocolate to one ear and attaching three heart-shaped sprinkles. Place a white pearl in the flower center with chocolate. Apply pink cheeks as done for Mr Bear.
- Accent marshmallows: Use remaining pink chocolate or color some white chocolate red. Insert a marshmallow onto a straw, dip it completely in the colored chocolate, then immediately coat with Valentine-themed sprinkles.
- Set accent marshmallows: Allow these to set chilled on the wax paper-lined plate in the refrigerator until firm.
Notes
- Ensure chocolate is fully melted and smooth before dipping for even coverage.
- Use oil-based candy colors as water-based colors can seize chocolate.
- If freezer is used, do not keep marshmallows too long to avoid frostiness; 5-10 minutes is sufficient.
- Use edible markers for safe and precise facial details.
- Paper straws or lollipop sticks should be inserted carefully to avoid breaking marshmallows.
- These treats are best consumed within a day or two for optimal freshness.
