Perfect for fall gatherings or a sweet snack.
Ingredients
Apples and Dipping
- 6 Granny Smith apples (washed and dried)
- 6 sticks (popsicle or wooden sticks with a pointy end)
Caramel Coating
- 24 oz Peter’s Caramel (or Kraft caramels, melted according to package instructions)
White Chocolate Coating
- 16 oz white almond bark (or white chocolate chips)
Cinnamon Sugar Topping
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
Instructions
- Prepare the Apples: Wash and thoroughly dry the Granny Smith apples. Remove their stems. Insert sticks halfway through the top of each apple. Using sticks with one pointy end or popsicle sticks will make this easier to push in securely.
- Mix Cinnamon Sugar: In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, granulated sugar, and cinnamon. Stir well to evenly blend all ingredients; this will be used for the finishing touch on your apples.
- Chill Apples: Place the prepared apples on a wax paper-lined baking sheet and transfer them to the freezer while you prepare the caramel. This chilling helps the caramel adhere better when dipped.
- Melt and Dip in Caramel: Melt the caramel according to the package directions. Once melted, remove the apples from the freezer and dip each one into the hot caramel, coating evenly. Scrape off excess caramel from the bottom to avoid pooling. Return the caramel-coated apples to the wax paper-lined baking sheet and place back in the freezer to speed up the caramel setting.
- Melt White Almond Bark and Coat Apples: While the caramel sets, melt the white almond bark or white chocolate chips until smooth. Dip each caramel-coated apple into the melted white almond bark, covering it completely. Immediately sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture generously over the wet coating to give that signature apple pie flavor.
- Set and Serve: Put the finished caramel and white chocolate coated apples back in the freezer for 5 minutes to fully set the coating. Once set, remove them from the freezer, cut into 8 slices each, and enjoy your delicious Apple Pie Caramel Apples.
Notes
- Using sticks with one pointy end, or sturdy popsicle sticks, makes inserting into the apples easier.
- If you don’t have white almond bark, use white chocolate chips but be sure to melt them carefully to avoid burning.
- Freezing the apples before and after dipping helps prevent the coatings from sliding off and speeds up setting time.
- Cutting the apples into slices after coating is ideal for easy serving and sharing.
- Store leftover apples wrapped in plastic wrap in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
