Description
A simple and delicious baked Swiss chicken recipe featuring tender chicken breasts coated in a creamy garlic and parmesan mayo sauce, topped with melted Swiss cheese and extra parmesan for a cheesy, flavorful dinner that is perfect served warm with rice.
Ingredients
Chicken
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
Sauce
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese, divided
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Topping
- 4 slices Swiss cheese
- Additional parmesan cheese for sprinkling (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat and prepare: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly coat a 9×13 inch casserole dish with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Make sauce: In a shallow bowl or pie pan, mix together the mayonnaise, half of the grated parmesan cheese (1/4 cup), garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
- Dip chicken: Coat each chicken breast generously in the prepared sauce mixture, ensuring all sides are covered. Place the coated chicken breasts in the prepared casserole dish in a single layer.
- Add cheese: Top each chicken breast with one slice of Swiss cheese. Then sprinkle the remaining 1/4 cup parmesan cheese evenly over the top. Add extra parmesan if you desire a cheesier crust.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes, or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) and the cheese is melted and golden.
- Serve: Remove from oven and serve warm. This dish pairs wonderfully with steamed rice or your favorite side.
Notes
- Ensure chicken breasts are of even thickness for uniform cooking; you can pound them gently if needed.
- Use a food thermometer to confirm the chicken is fully cooked to 165°F for food safety.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven to retain texture.
- For a lower-fat version, substitute mayonnaise with Greek yogurt.
- Italian seasoning can be replaced with a blend of dried basil, oregano, and thyme if preferred.
