Description

Deliciously rich banana bread brownies that combine the moist texture of banana bread with the fudgy indulgence of chocolate brownies. Featuring ripe bananas, cocoa powder, and a mix of chocolate chips and walnuts, these brownies bake to perfection with a soft, chewy center and crunchy nuts on top.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup mashed ripe bananas (about 2)

Add-Ins

  • 3/4 cup chocolate chips, divided
  • 3/4 cup walnuts, roughly chopped & divided

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a 9×9 inch baking pan with parchment paper to ensure the brownies won’t stick and for easy removal.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a small bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt until evenly combined.
  3. Combine wet ingredients: In a separate large bowl, whisk the melted butter and sugar together until smooth and blended.
  4. Add eggs and vanilla: Add the eggs and vanilla extract to the wet mixture and whisk vigorously for about 1 minute to incorporate air and ensure a smooth batter.
  5. Add mashed bananas: Fold the mashed ripe bananas into the wet ingredients gently using a spatula to maintain some texture.
  6. Incorporate dry ingredients: Gradually fold in the dry ingredient mixture until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  7. Fold in chocolate chips and walnuts: Mix in half (½ cup) of the chocolate chips and walnuts into the batter evenly.
  8. Prepare for baking: Spread the batter evenly in the parchment-lined pan. Sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips and walnuts on top to add extra texture and flavor.
  9. Bake the brownies: Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out mostly clean with a few moist crumbs.
  10. Cool and serve: Remove from the oven and allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before cutting into 16 servings for best results.

Notes

  • Ensure bananas are ripe for maximum sweetness and moisture.
  • Do not overmix the batter to keep brownies tender.
  • Use parchment paper to avoid sticking and make clean removal easy.
  • Test for doneness with a toothpick to avoid overbaking and drying out.
  • Walnuts can be substituted with pecans or omitted for nut-free.
