Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter, melted
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup mashed ripe bananas (about 2)
Add-Ins
- 3/4 cup chocolate chips, divided
- 3/4 cup walnuts, roughly chopped & divided
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a 9×9 inch baking pan with parchment paper to ensure the brownies won’t stick and for easy removal.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a small bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt until evenly combined.
- Combine wet ingredients: In a separate large bowl, whisk the melted butter and sugar together until smooth and blended.
- Add eggs and vanilla: Add the eggs and vanilla extract to the wet mixture and whisk vigorously for about 1 minute to incorporate air and ensure a smooth batter.
- Add mashed bananas: Fold the mashed ripe bananas into the wet ingredients gently using a spatula to maintain some texture.
- Incorporate dry ingredients: Gradually fold in the dry ingredient mixture until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
- Fold in chocolate chips and walnuts: Mix in half (½ cup) of the chocolate chips and walnuts into the batter evenly.
- Prepare for baking: Spread the batter evenly in the parchment-lined pan. Sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips and walnuts on top to add extra texture and flavor.
- Bake the brownies: Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out mostly clean with a few moist crumbs.
- Cool and serve: Remove from the oven and allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before cutting into 16 servings for best results.
Notes
- Ensure bananas are ripe for maximum sweetness and moisture.
- Do not overmix the batter to keep brownies tender.
- Use parchment paper to avoid sticking and make clean removal easy.
- Test for doneness with a toothpick to avoid overbaking and drying out.
- Walnuts can be substituted with pecans or omitted for nut-free.
