Ingredients
Meat & Vegetables
- 1 lb. lean ground beef (96/4)
- 2 medium bell peppers (red & green, finely diced; optional)
Other Ingredients
- 14 oz. jar pizza sauce
- 1 (16-oz.) can Pillsbury Grands Biscuits
- 1.5 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1.5 oz sliced turkey pepperoni
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Cook the Ground Beef: Place the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook and crumble the beef for 3-4 minutes. Season with salt (about 1/2 tsp) and pepper (about 1/4 tsp) to taste.
- Add Bell Peppers: Stir in the finely diced red and green bell peppers. Continue to sauté until the peppers are soft and the beef is fully cooked through with no pink remaining. Drain excess liquid from the skillet.
- Mix in Pizza Sauce: Pour the jar of pizza sauce into the beef and pepper mixture, stirring to combine evenly.
- Prepare the Biscuits: Cut each biscuit into six pieces and spread them evenly in the greased 9×13-inch casserole dish.
- Layer the Beef Mixture: Spoon the seasoned beef and sauce mixture over the biscuit pieces in the baking dish.
- Add Cheese and Pepperoni: Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese over the beef layer, then top with sliced turkey pepperoni evenly across the dish.
- Bake: Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake uncovered for 25-30 minutes, or until the biscuit pieces have puffed up and are cooked through. If the topping starts to brown too much, cover loosely with foil.
- Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and let the casserole cool for 5-10 minutes to set before slicing and serving. Enjoy your cheesy, hearty pizza casserole!
Notes
- You can omit the bell peppers if your kids prefer a simpler flavor.
- Use low-fat mozzarella cheese for a lighter option.
- Substitute beef with ground turkey or chicken if preferred.
- Make sure to drain excess liquid after cooking meat and peppers to avoid soggy biscuits.
- Cover with foil during baking if the cheese or pepperoni gets too browned before biscuits are fully cooked.
