Ingredients
Beef and Seasonings
- 1 pound Ground Beef
- ½ teaspoon Onion Powder
- ½ teaspoon Salt
- ¼ teaspoon Black Pepper
Cheese and Bread
- 6 slices Cheddar Cheese
- 6 Sub Sandwich Rolls
Sauce
- ½ cup Mayonnaise
- ¼ cup Ketchup
- 2 teaspoons Yellow Mustard
Instructions
- Cook the Beef: Place the ground beef along with onion powder, salt, and black pepper into a skillet over medium heat. Stir and break up the meat as it cooks, cooking until the beef is fully browned and no longer pink.
- Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, ketchup, and yellow mustard until thoroughly combined to create a smooth, tangy sauce.
- Assemble the Subs: Line a baking sheet with foil and lay out the sub sandwich rolls. Open each roll and add a generous portion of the cooked ground beef to the bottom half of each bun, then top with one or more slices of cheddar cheese.
- Broil the Subs: Leave the sandwiches open-faced on the baking sheet and place under the oven broiler on High. Broil for 1-2 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the bread edges are toasted. Watch carefully to prevent burning.
- Add Sauce and Toppings: Remove from the oven and spoon the prepared sauce onto the top half of each bun. Add your favorite burger toppings such as lettuce, tomato, pickles, or onions, then close the sub and serve immediately.
Notes
- Watch the broiler closely to avoid burning the cheese or bread as it only takes a minute or two to melt and toast.
- Feel free to customize your subs with additional burger toppings like sliced pickles, onions, or lettuce for extra crunch and flavor.
- Use freshly toasted sub rolls to improve texture and make the sandwich less soggy.
- Ground turkey or chicken can be used as a leaner alternative to ground beef if preferred.
- Leftover subs can be wrapped tightly and refrigerated for up to 2 days; reheat in the oven for best results.
