Description

Coffee jelly is a delightful and refreshing dessert made by setting strong brewed coffee with gelatin and sweetening it to taste. This classic Japanese-inspired treat combines the rich, bold flavor of coffee with a smooth, jelly-like texture, perfect for a light and sophisticated finish to any meal or a cool afternoon snack.

Ingredients

Gelatin Mixture

  • 2 envelopes unflavored gelatin
  • 1 to 3 tablespoons granulated sugar (white or brown, to taste)

Coffee Base

  • 3 cups fresh strong brewed coffee (or 3 cups boiling water + 1 to 2 tablespoons instant coffee, adjusted to taste)

Instructions

  1. Mix gelatin and sugar: In a large 4-cup heatproof measuring cup, combine the unflavored gelatin with the granulated sugar. This helps the gelatin dissolve evenly and ensures the jelly will set properly.
  2. Add hot coffee: Pour the hot fresh brewed coffee (or prepared instant coffee with boiling water) into the gelatin and sugar mixture. Stir thoroughly until the gelatin and sugar have completely dissolved. Taste the mixture and adjust the sweetness by adding more sugar if needed.
  3. Pour and smooth: Transfer the coffee mixture into a 9-inch square pan, a 7×11-inch baking dish, or divide into individual serving dishes. If you notice any foam on top, gently skim it off with a spoon to achieve a smooth jelly surface once set.
  4. Cool and refrigerate: Allow the coffee mixture to cool down to room temperature. Then place it carefully on a level shelf in the refrigerator to chill. Let it set undisturbed for at least 4 hours, or until it becomes very firm to the touch.
  5. Serve: After the jelly is fully set, cut it into cubes. Spoon the cubes into bowls or glasses, and add your favorite toppings such as whipped cream or condensed milk if desired, then enjoy this refreshing coffee jelly dessert.

Notes

  • Adjust the sweetness according to your preference by adding more or less sugar.
  • Use freshly brewed coffee for the best flavor, but instant coffee is a convenient alternative.
  • Ensure the gelatin is fully dissolved to avoid lumps in the jelly.
  • Serving suggestions include topping with whipped cream, sweetened condensed milk, or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for extra indulgence.
  • Make sure the container is level in the fridge to set the jelly evenly.
