Description

This delicious Chocolate Oatmeal recipe is a comforting and nutritious breakfast option that combines creamy oats with rich cocoa powder and a touch of sweetness from maple syrup or honey. Ready in just 15 minutes, it’s perfect for a cozy morning treat that satisfies your chocolate cravings while keeping things wholesome and filling.

Ingredients

Liquid Ingredients

  • 1 cup (240 ml) water
  • 1 cup (240 ml) milk
  • 2 – 4 tablespoons (3060 ml) maple syrup or honey, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Dry Ingredients

  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon, optional
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons (10 g) Dutch processed cocoa powder
  • 1½ cups (135 g) old fashioned or rolled oats

Instructions

  1. Mix Ingredients: Pour the milk and water into a large pan or small pot. Add the cinnamon, salt, and vanilla extract to the liquid.
  2. Add Cocoa Powder: Sift the Dutch processed cocoa powder on top of the liquid ingredients. Stir everything together thoroughly to incorporate the cocoa and flavorings evenly.
  3. Add Oats: Once the liquid mixture is well combined, stir in the old fashioned or rolled oats evenly.
  4. Cook Oatmeal: Place the pan over medium heat and cook the mixture for about 10 to 15 minutes. Stir frequently to prevent sticking and ensure a creamy, thickened oatmeal texture.
  5. Serve: Divide the cooked chocolate oatmeal evenly into two bowls. Top with your favorite toppings such as a drizzle of cream or half and half, chocolate chips, and fresh raspberries for an extra indulgent touch.

Notes

  • You can adjust the sweetness by varying the amount of maple syrup or honey according to your taste.
  • For a dairy-free option, substitute milk with almond, oat, or any plant-based milk.
  • Stirring frequently while cooking is important to avoid burning the oatmeal and to achieve a creamy texture.
  • Adding toppings like fresh berries and chocolate chips adds texture and boosts flavor complexity.
