Ingredients
Liquid Ingredients
- 1 cup (240 ml) water
- 1 cup (240 ml) milk
- 2 – 4 tablespoons (30 – 60 ml) maple syrup or honey, to taste
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Dry Ingredients
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon, optional
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons (10 g) Dutch processed cocoa powder
- 1½ cups (135 g) old fashioned or rolled oats
Instructions
- Mix Ingredients: Pour the milk and water into a large pan or small pot. Add the cinnamon, salt, and vanilla extract to the liquid.
- Add Cocoa Powder: Sift the Dutch processed cocoa powder on top of the liquid ingredients. Stir everything together thoroughly to incorporate the cocoa and flavorings evenly.
- Add Oats: Once the liquid mixture is well combined, stir in the old fashioned or rolled oats evenly.
- Cook Oatmeal: Place the pan over medium heat and cook the mixture for about 10 to 15 minutes. Stir frequently to prevent sticking and ensure a creamy, thickened oatmeal texture.
- Serve: Divide the cooked chocolate oatmeal evenly into two bowls. Top with your favorite toppings such as a drizzle of cream or half and half, chocolate chips, and fresh raspberries for an extra indulgent touch.
Notes
- You can adjust the sweetness by varying the amount of maple syrup or honey according to your taste.
- For a dairy-free option, substitute milk with almond, oat, or any plant-based milk.
- Stirring frequently while cooking is important to avoid burning the oatmeal and to achieve a creamy texture.
- Adding toppings like fresh berries and chocolate chips adds texture and boosts flavor complexity.
