Description

These Dark Chocolate Tahini Cups are a decadent yet simple treat combining rich dark chocolate with creamy tahini and a hint of maple syrup. Perfect as a snack or dessert, these no-bake cups feature a crunchy sesame seed topping and a touch of flaky sea salt to enhance the flavors. Quick to prepare and easy to store, they offer a delightful balance of nutty and chocolaty goodness.

Ingredients

Filling

  • ⅓ cup tahini
  • ½ tablespoon maple syrup
  • ½ tablespoon ground flax seeds (optional)

Chocolate Cups

  • 1 ¼ cups dark chocolate chips
  • ½ teaspoon sesame oil (optional)

Garnish

  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 1 pinch flaky sea salt

Instructions

  1. Prep muffin tin: Place muffin liners inside a muffin tin and set aside to prepare for filling.
  2. Mix tahini filling: In a small bowl, combine ⅓ cup tahini with ½ tablespoon maple syrup and mix well until fully combined. If the tahini is very thin, stir in ½ tablespoon ground flax seeds and let sit for about 10 minutes to thicken the mixture.
  3. Melt chocolate: Place 1 ¼ cups dark chocolate chips and optional ½ teaspoon sesame oil in a medium mixing bowl. Melt the chocolate either by microwaving in 15-30 second intervals, stirring until smooth, or by using a double boiler method with a water bath over medium heat until completely melted and smooth.
  4. Fill and freeze muffin cups: Spoon 2 tablespoons of melted chocolate into each muffin liner, carefully coating the sides. Freeze the muffin tin for 10 minutes until the chocolate solidifies. Then, add 2 teaspoons of the tahini mixture in the center of each cup and freeze for an additional 5 minutes. Finally, top each cup with 2 more tablespoons of melted chocolate, sprinkle with 1 tablespoon sesame seeds and a pinch of flaky sea salt, and freeze for another 10 minutes to set.
  5. Enjoy or store: Remove the hardened cups from the muffin liners. Enjoy immediately as a delicious treat, or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator until ready to eat.

Notes

  • Using ground flax seeds helps thicken the tahini filling but is optional based on your tahini’s consistency.
  • Sesame oil enhances the chocolate flavor but can be omitted if unavailable.
  • Freezing times ensure the cups set properly and hold their shape.
  • Store cups in the refrigerator for up to one week for best freshness.
  • For a richer flavor, use high-quality dark chocolate chips with at least 70% cocoa content.
