Description

Celebrate the 4th of July with these easy and patriotic M&M brownies! Moist and fudgy, these brownies feature a rich chocolate base enhanced with black coffee and topped with vibrant red, white, and blue M&M candies for a festive touch. Perfect for sharing at your Independence Day gatherings.

Ingredients

Brownie Base

  • 1 box brownie mix (Betty Crocker fudge brownie mix recommended)
  • 2 tablespoons black coffee, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Topping

  • 2/3 cup red, white, and blue M&M candies, divided

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8×8 inch baking pan with parchment paper to ensure easy removal of the brownies.
  2. Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the brownie mix, black coffee, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Stir thoroughly until the batter is smooth and there are no lumps.
  3. Pour Batter: Pour the prepared brownie batter into the lined baking pan. Smooth the top with an offset spatula or the back of a large spoon for even baking.
  4. Add Initial M&M Topping: Sprinkle 1/3 cup of the red, white, and blue M&M candies evenly over the surface of the batter, avoiding pressing them into the batter.
  5. Bake Brownies: Place the pan in your preheated oven and bake for 45 to 50 minutes. Test doneness by inserting a toothpick about 2 inches from the side of the pan; it should come out almost clean.
  6. Add Final M&M Topping: Immediately after removing the brownies from the oven, sprinkle the remaining 1/3 cup of M&M candies on top to add extra color and crunch.
  7. Cool and Serve: Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan set on a cooling rack before slicing to ensure clean cuts and the perfect texture.

Notes

  • Using black coffee intensifies the chocolate flavor without making the brownies taste like coffee.
  • Do not overbake; removing from the oven when a toothpick is nearly clean keeps the brownies moist.
  • For easier removal, ensure parchment paper extends over the sides of the pan.
  • Letting the brownies cool completely before slicing prevents crumbling.
  • You can substitute M&Ms with other festive candies if desired.
