Description

This Easy Almond Croissants recipe brings a delightful twist to classic croissants by filling them with a smooth almond butter mixture and topping with sliced almonds. Perfectly baked to golden brown with a dusting of powdered sugar, these croissants offer a buttery sweetness and nutty flavor ideal for breakfast or an indulgent snack.

Ingredients

Filling

  • 6 Tablespoons unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup almond flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract

Croissants and Topping

  • 6 large croissants
  • 1/4 cup sliced almonds
  • 2 Tablespoons powdered sugar, for dusting the tops

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside to prepare for baking.
  2. Make Filling: In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with granulated sugar until the mixture becomes light and fluffy, about 2 minutes using a hand mixer or stand mixer.
  3. Add Ingredients: To the butter and sugar, add almond flour, the large egg, and almond extract. Beat this combination for an additional two minutes until the filling is smooth and fully combined. Set this almond filling aside.
  4. Prepare Croissants: Using a serrated knife, carefully slice each croissant horizontally in half. Spread roughly 2 tablespoons of the almond filling on the bottom half of each croissant.
  5. Assemble and Top: Place the top halves of the croissants back onto the filling and press down gently to close. Spread a thin layer of the almond filling over the tops and sprinkle sliced almonds over it, pressing gently to adhere.
  6. Bake: Arrange the filled croissants on the prepared baking sheet. Bake them in the preheated oven for 13 to 16 minutes, until the tops are golden brown and the filling is set.
  7. Cool and Serve: Let the croissants cool for several minutes after baking. Dust them generously with powdered sugar and serve warm for the best flavor and texture experience.

Notes

  • Ensure the butter is softened to room temperature to achieve a fluffy filling.
  • Use fresh croissants for best results; day-old croissants can also work if slightly warmed.
  • Feel free to toast the sliced almonds lightly before topping for added crunch and flavor.
  • These croissants are best enjoyed the same day but can be reheated briefly in the oven.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute butter with a plant-based alternative and check all ingredients accordingly.
