Ingredients
Cookie Bars
- ⅓ cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 cup dark brown sugar
- 1 ½ tsp vanilla extract
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp salt
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Mini Red, White, Blue M&Ms (for toppings)
- Red, White, Blue Sprinkles (for toppings)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy removal of the cookie bars.
- Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and dark brown sugar together until the mixture is light and fluffy, ensuring the sugar is well incorporated.
- Add Vanilla and Eggs: Mix in the vanilla extract followed by the eggs, adding one at a time and beating well after each addition to create a smooth batter.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cinnamon, and salt to evenly distribute the ingredients.
- Mix Dry and Wet Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture into the wet batter. Mix gently just until combined to avoid overworking the batter.
- Fold in Chocolate Chips: Carefully fold the semi-sweet chocolate chips into the dough to evenly distribute them without deflating the batter.
- Spread Dough in Pan: Spread the cookie dough evenly into the prepared baking pan, smoothing the top with a spatula for an even surface.
- Add Toppings: Sprinkle mini red, white, and blue M&Ms along with festive sprinkles on top of the dough. Gently press them into the surface so they adhere during baking.
- Bake: Bake the cookie bars for 25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the cookie bars to cool completely in the pan. Once cooled, use the parchment paper overhang to lift the bars out of the pan and cut into 16 equal squares. Serve and enjoy!
Notes
- Make sure the butter is softened to room temperature for easier creaming with sugar.
- Do not overmix once the flour is added to keep the bars tender and soft.
- For easier removal, line the baking pan with parchment paper allowing some overhang on the sides.
- These bars can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
- Feel free to substitute the semi-sweet chocolate chips with white or milk chocolate chips for variety.
