Description

Celebrate the Fourth of July with these festive Red, White, and Blue Rice Krispies Treats. Soft, chewy, and bursting with patriotic colors, these treats feature layers of colored marshmallow cereal squares sandwiched with creamy white frosting and topped with sprinkles, perfect for any Independence Day party or summer gathering.

Ingredients

Rice Krispies Treats

  • 8 tablespoons Unsalted Butter, sliced
  • 12 cups Mini Marshmallows
  • 8 cups Rice Cereal
  • Blue Food Coloring, a few drops
  • Red Food Coloring, a few drops

Assembly

  • 1 can White Frosting (16 ounces)
  • Red, White, and Blue Sprinkles
  • Nonstick Cooking Spray (for pans and hands)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Marshmallow Mixtures: Divide the marshmallows and butter evenly into two large microwave-safe bowls. Microwave one bowl for 1-2 minutes until the marshmallows and butter melt, stirring well after heating. Repeat for the second bowl.
  2. Add Food Coloring: Stir red food coloring into one melted marshmallow mixture until the color is even and desired intensity is reached. Add blue food coloring similarly to the second bowl.
  3. Combine with Cereal: Fold half of the rice cereal into the red marshmallow mixture until fully combined. Repeat with the blue mixture and the remaining cereal.
  4. Shape and Press: Spray two 9×13-inch baking dishes with nonstick spray. Spread the red mixture evenly in one dish and the blue mixture evenly in the other. Spray your hands and press each mixture firmly and evenly into the pans.
  5. Add Sprinkles and Set: Sprinkle patriotic themed red, white, and blue sprinkles over the pressed cereal treats. Let them sit undisturbed for 40 minutes until fully set and firm.
  6. Cut Star Shapes: Using a star-shaped cookie cutter, cut stars from both the red and blue cereal treats.
  7. Assemble Stars: Spoon white frosting into a zip-top bag and snip a small corner to pipe frosting. Pipe frosting onto the un-sprinkled side of one star, then sandwich it with a star of the opposite color facing frosting-side down, creating layered red, white, and blue stars. Repeat with all stars.

Notes

  • Use mini marshmallows for best melting and texture.
  • If desired, adjust the amount of food coloring to achieve deeper or lighter colors.
  • Press treats firmly to ensure they hold together when cut and assembled.
  • Store assembled treats in an airtight container for up to 2 days to maintain freshness.
  • For easier spreading, allow frosting to come to room temperature before piping.
