Ingredients
Gelatin Base
- 1 box orange gelatin mix (3 oz / 85 g)
- 1 cup boiling water
- ½ cup cold water
Salad Mix
- 1 tub Cool Whip (thawed, 8 oz / 1 L)
- 2 cups mini marshmallows
- 1 cup pineapple chunks (drained)
- 1 cup mandarin orange segments (drained)
Optional Decorations
- Food coloring (neon green, purple, or orange), optional
- Gummy eyeballs, for garnish
- Gummy worms, for garnish
- Halloween sprinkles, for garnish
Instructions
- Dissolve Gelatin: In a large bowl, dissolve the orange gelatin mix in 1 cup of boiling water. Stir in ½ cup of cold water. Refrigerate the mixture until it becomes syrupy but not fully set, approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour.
- Mix with Cool Whip: Once the gelatin has thickened, gently fold it into the thawed Cool Whip until the mixture is smooth and creamy. If desired, add food coloring a drop at a time to achieve a spooky neon shade.
- Add Fruits and Marshmallows: Stir in the mini marshmallows, drained pineapple chunks, and mandarin orange segments until all ingredients are evenly combined.
- Chill to Set: Cover the bowl and refrigerate the salad for at least 2 hours, allowing it to fully set and become fluffy.
- Garnish and Serve: Just before serving, decorate the salad by scattering gummy eyeballs and Halloween sprinkles on top, and tuck gummy worms so they appear to crawl out of the salad, adding a fun and festive touch.
Notes
- Ensure the gelatin is not fully set before mixing into the Cool Whip to maintain a creamy texture.
- Use fresh or canned fruit drained well to avoid excess liquid in the salad.
- For a more vibrant color, add food coloring gradually and stir well.
- Can be prepared up to one day in advance and kept chilled.
- Gummy candies and sprinkles add a decorative Halloween flair but can be omitted if preferred.
