Description

This Halloween Popcorn Balls recipe features two fun and festive popcorn treats without using corn syrup. Made with melted dark and white chocolate chips, these popcorn balls are decorated with assorted edible decorations like candy eyeballs and sprinkles. They are easy to make and perfect for Halloween parties or seasonal snacking, setting quickly in the fridge to form delicious, chocolate-covered popcorn balls.

Ingredients

Popcorn

  • 4 cups plain popped popcorn

Dark Chocolate Popcorn Balls

  • 3/4 cup dark chocolate chips
  • Assorted edible decorations (candy eyeballs, sprinkles, coconut, etc.)

White Chocolate Popcorn Balls

  • 3/4 cup white chocolate chips
  • Assorted edible decorations (candy eyeballs, sprinkles, coconut, etc.)

Instructions

  1. Prepare muffin tin: Line a muffin tin with 12 silicone muffin liners or alternatively line each cup with saran wrap to prevent sticking.
  2. Make dark chocolate popcorn balls: Place 2 cups of popped popcorn into a large mixing bowl. Melt 3/4 cup dark chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl by heating in 30-second intervals, stirring between each until smooth and fully melted without burning.
  3. Combine popcorn and dark chocolate: Pour the melted dark chocolate over the popcorn and toss gently with a rubber spatula until the popcorn is evenly coated.
  4. Form popcorn balls: Quickly scoop the chocolate-coated popcorn into 6 of the lined muffin cups, shaping them into balls. Press desired edible decorations gently on top to help them stick.
  5. Make white chocolate popcorn balls: In a separate clean bowl, add the remaining 2 cups of popped popcorn. Melt 3/4 cup white chocolate chips similarly in 30-second microwave increments until smooth.
  6. Combine popcorn and white chocolate: Pour the melted white chocolate over the popcorn and toss until well coated.
  7. Form white chocolate balls: Scoop the coated popcorn into the remaining 6 muffin cups, shaping into balls. Decorate with edible decorations, pressing gently to adhere.
  8. Chill the popcorn balls: Place the muffin tin with all popcorn balls in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes or until the chocolate has hardened completely.
  9. Serve or store: Carefully remove the popcorn balls from the muffin liners or pan. Serve immediately or store them in an airtight container in the fridge for several days.

Notes

  • Use silicone liners or saran wrap to easily release popcorn balls without breaking.
  • Melt chocolate slowly in 30-second increments to avoid burning.
  • Work quickly when forming balls to ensure the chocolate doesn’t harden prematurely.
  • Store popcorn balls in an airtight container in the refrigerator to maintain freshness.
  • Feel free to customize decorations according to your Halloween theme.
