Description

These Jalapeno Popper Wonton Cups are a delicious and crispy appetizer combining creamy cheese filling with spicy jalapenos baked in crispy wonton wrappers. Perfect for parties or a flavorful snack, they bake in under 30 minutes and deliver a perfect blend of textures and flavors with a cheesy, slightly spicy bite in every crunchy cup.

Ingredients

Wonton Cups

  • 24 wonton wrappers
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Cheese Filling

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, freshly grated
  • ¼ cup jalapenos, minced
  • 2 tablespoons green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a muffin pan with non-stick cooking spray to prepare for baking the wonton cups.
  2. Prepare Wonton Wrappers: Brush one side of each wonton wrapper with olive oil for crispiness. Place two wrappers oil-side up into each muffin tin hole, forming the base and sides for the cups.
  3. Partially Bake Wonton Cups: Bake the wonton wrappers for 5 minutes until they start to lightly brown and become crisp but are not fully cooked yet.
  4. Make Cheese Filling: In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, grated cheddar cheese, minced jalapenos, sliced green onions, and garlic powder. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated.
  5. Fill Wonton Cups: Spoon approximately 2 tablespoons of the cheese mixture into each partially baked wonton cup, filling them generously.
  6. Bake Filled Cups: Return the cups to the oven and bake for an additional 8 to 10 minutes, or until the cheese filling is golden brown and bubbly and the wonton cups are crispy.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Remove from oven and garnish each cup with a slice of jalapeno or additional sliced green onions for a fresh, spicy finish. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Use fresh jalapenos for best flavor and to control the heat level.
  • Make sure cream cheese is softened to easily combine the filling ingredients.
  • You can substitute cheddar cheese with pepper jack cheese for a spicier kick.
  • Allow cups to cool slightly before removing from muffin tin to prevent breakage.
  • These cups can be made ahead and reheated in the oven to retain crispiness.
