Description
This Lavender Chocolate Chips recipe infuses creamy white chocolate with delicate floral notes of lavender and a hint of purple color, making for a unique and visually appealing addition to desserts, baked goods, or as a sweet snack. The process involves melting white chocolate with coconut oil, blending in lavender candy oil and purple food coloring, then piping and freezing to create individual chips.
Ingredients
Chocolate Mixture
- 6 oz / 170 g white chocolate chips
- 1 tsp coconut oil (or shortening)
- 3 drops lavender candy oil
- A few drops purple food coloring (oil-based)
Instructions
- Melt Chocolate Chips: Melt the white chocolate chips and coconut oil together either in the microwave or on the stovetop. For microwave, place them in a microwave-safe bowl and heat in 20-second intervals, stirring between each, until fully melted. For stovetop, bring a small pot of water to a simmer, place the chocolate chips and coconut oil in a heatproof bowl, set it over the pot ensuring the bowl does not touch the water, and stir until melted.
- Add Lavender Oil and Colorant: Once the white chocolate is melted and smooth, add in the lavender candy oil and several drops of purple food coloring.
- Mix Well: Stir gently and thoroughly until the lavender oil and food coloring are fully incorporated and no streaks remain.
- Transfer into Pastry Bag: Pour the chocolate mixture into a disposable piping bag and snip off the tip to prepare for piping.
- Pipe Chocolate Chips: Line a small cookie sheet with wax or parchment paper. Pipe small dots onto the sheet, mimicking the size and shape of chocolate chips, until the mixture is used up.
- Freeze Chocolate Chips: Place the cookie sheet in the freezer for 10 to 15 minutes, or until the chocolate chips are completely solidified.
- Release Chocolate Chips: Carefully peel the chocolate chips off the wax or parchment paper. You can bend the paper gently to help them release. Transfer the chips to an airtight container for storage until ready to use.
Notes
- Use oil-based food coloring to avoid seizing the chocolate.
- Ensure the mixture is completely cooled and solid before removing from the sheet to maintain shape.
- Store the chips in an airtight container in a cool place or refrigerator to prevent melting.
- Adjust the amount of lavender candy oil to taste, but use sparingly as it can be potent.
