Description

This Nutella Mousse is a luscious and creamy dessert combining the rich flavors of cream cheese, Nutella, and dark chocolate. Light and airy with a smooth texture, it’s perfect for chocolate lovers looking for an elegant yet easy-to-make treat. Chilled and garnished with whipped cream, chocolate shavings, and lady finger cookies, this mousse is sure to impress at any occasion.

Ingredients

For the Mousse:

  • 8 oz cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1 cup Nutella
  • 2 tablespoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups whipping cream
  • 7 oz good quality dark chocolate (reserve a small amount for garnish if desired)
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar

Additional Garnishes (optional):

  • 3 lady finger cookies, cut in half
  • Chocolate shavings
  • Whipped cream

Instructions

  1. Beat Cream Cheese: Using a hand mixer, beat the cream cheese on high in a large bowl until fluffy, about 2-3 minutes, to create a smooth base for the mousse.
  2. Add Nutella and Vanilla: Add the Nutella and pure vanilla extract to the cream cheese and mix again for a few minutes until fully combined and smooth. Set this mixture aside.
  3. Whip Cream: Thoroughly wash and dry the hand mixer. Then beat the 2 cups of whipping cream in a medium bowl until soft peaks form, which means the cream holds gentle peaks when the beaters are lifted.
  4. Melt Dark Chocolate: Melt the dark chocolate in a small bowl using a microwave or double boiler, then allow it to cool for about 3 minutes so it isn’t hot when added to the whipped cream.
  5. Combine Chocolate and Whipped Cream: Gently fold the melted chocolate into the whipped cream to combine without deflating the mixture.
  6. Add Powdered Sugar and Whip: Add the powdered sugar to the chocolate and cream mixture and whip on high until stiff peaks form, usually 3-4 minutes. This ensures a stable mousse texture.
  7. Fold Mixtures Together: Carefully fold the whipped cream mixture into the cream cheese and Nutella base, combining them gently to maintain the airy texture of the mousse.
  8. Pipe and Chill: Using a piping bag or a Ziploc bag with the tip cut, fill serving cups with the mousse. Place them in the refrigerator and chill for 2-3 hours so they set properly.
  9. Garnish and Serve: Top each mousse with a dollop of whipped cream, chocolate shavings, and half a lady finger cookie for garnish. Serve cold and enjoy!

Notes

  • Ensure the cream cheese is at room temperature to avoid lumps and ensure smooth mixing.
  • Gently folding the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture preserves the mousse’s light and fluffy texture.
  • Allowing the melted chocolate to cool slightly before adding it to whipped cream prevents it from melting the cream and losing volume.
  • This mousse can be prepared up to a day in advance and stored covered in the refrigerator.
  • For a nut-free version, substitute Nutella with a chocolate hazelnut spread alternative free of nuts, but this will change the flavor profile.
