Description
This quick and easy Pizza Toast recipe transforms store-bought garlic bread into a delicious snack or light meal. With gooey melted mozzarella, vibrant marinara sauce, and your choice of classic pepperoni or fresh margherita toppings, it’s perfect for satisfying pizza cravings in just 30 minutes.
Ingredients
Base
- 8 slices store bought garlic bread
Sauce and Cheese
- 8 tablespoons marinara sauce
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 tablespoon shredded Parmesan cheese
- ¼ teaspoon dried oregano
Toppings
- Sliced tomatoes and fresh basil for a margherita pizza
- Pepperoni slices for a pepperoni pizza toast
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and prepare a rimmed baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ease clean-up.
- Toast the Garlic Bread: Arrange the 8 slices of garlic bread in a single layer on the baking sheet. Bake for 10-15 minutes, flipping once halfway through, until the bread is lightly toasted and golden brown on both sides.
- Add Sauce and Cheese: Spread one tablespoon of marinara sauce evenly on each toasted garlic bread slice, then sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over all slices to create a melty cheesy layer.
- Add Toppings: Top each slice with your choice of toppings—pepperoni slices for a classic flavor or thinly sliced tomatoes for a fresh margherita. Do not add basil yet if using margherita as it will be added after baking.
- Bake Again: Return the baking sheet to the oven and bake for 5 minutes, or until the mozzarella cheese has melted thoroughly.
- Add Finishing Touches: Remove the slices from the oven. Sprinkle the shredded Parmesan cheese and dried oregano evenly over all the slices for added flavor and aroma.
- Broil to Brown: Place the baking sheet under the broiler for 1-2 minutes, watching carefully until the edges of the bread and cheese become golden brown and slightly crisp.
- Add Fresh Herbs: For margherita pizza toast, sprinkle fresh thinly sliced basil leaves over the top. Optionally, add finely chopped fresh parsley on the pepperoni pizzas for a pop of color.
- Serve: Let the pizza toasts cool on the pan for 5-10 minutes to set before serving. Enjoy warm as a quick appetizer or light meal.
Notes
- You can substitute store-bought garlic bread with regular sandwich bread brushed with garlic butter.
- Watch closely when broiling to avoid burning the toast.
- Customize toppings based on your preference; vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms work well too.
- For a crispier base, toast the garlic bread slightly longer before adding toppings.
