Description

A quick and easy instant oatmeal recipe that can be pre-mixed in advance and prepared in just minutes using boiling water or a microwave. Perfect for a nutritious, customizable breakfast with options to add fruits, nuts, and seeds for extra flavor and texture.

Ingredients

Oatmeal Mix

  • 1/2 cup quick oats (1 minute oats)
  • 1 Tbsp cream powder (or powdered milk)
  • 1 to 2 tsp white sugar (or brown sugar or coconut sugar)
  • 1/2 tsp chia seeds (or ground flax seeds)
  • 1 fair pinch salt
  • 2 to 4 Tbsp mix-ins (freeze-dried fruit, nuts, or dried fruit, see notes)

To Prepare

  • 3/4 cup boiling water (for stove method)
  • 1 cup water (for microwave method)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Instant Oatmeal Mix: In a 12 oz heat-proof food storage container, combine quick oats, cream powder, sugar, chia or flax seeds, and salt. Layer in your chosen mix-ins such as freeze-dried fruit, nuts, or dried fruit. Seal the container tightly and store the mix for up to 1 month.
  2. Cook with Boiling Water: When ready to eat, pour 3/4 cup boiling water over the prepared oat mixture, stir well, and let it rest for 2 minutes to soften and thicken.
  3. Cook in Microwave: Alternatively, add 1 cup water to the instant oat mixture in a 16 to 24 oz microwave-safe bowl. Stir to combine, then microwave uncovered for 1 to 1 1/2 minutes. Let the oatmeal rest for 2 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Mix-ins can be customized with your favorite freeze-dried fruits, nuts, or dried fruits for added flavor and texture.
  • Adjust sugar quantity or type to suit dietary preferences or sweetness level.
  • This recipe can be stored as a dry mix for convenience and prepared quickly when needed.
  • For a creamier texture, consider using powdered milk or cream powder as suggested.
