Description

A comforting and hearty ravioli casserole layered with creamy cheeses, savory Italian sausage, and rich spaghetti sauce, baked to perfection and topped with melted mozzarella cheese and fresh parsley.

Ingredients

Meat Sauce

  • 1 pound Italian sausage (or ground beef)
  • 1 (28 ounce) jar spaghetti sauce (your favorite brand)

Cheese Mixture

  • 1 cup cottage cheese
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Main Ingredients

  • 1 (25 ounce) package frozen cheese ravioli
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Garnish

  • Chopped parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and spray a 9×13 inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Cook the sausage: In a medium pan, brown the Italian sausage or ground beef over medium heat until fully cooked. Drain any excess fat from the pan to keep the casserole from being greasy.
  3. Add spaghetti sauce: Stir the jar of spaghetti sauce into the cooked sausage. Turn off the heat and set the meat sauce aside.
  4. Prepare cheese mixture: In a large bowl, combine the cottage cheese, softened cream cheese, sour cream, grated Parmesan cheese, and garlic powder. Mix thoroughly until well incorporated.
  5. Add ravioli: Gently fold the frozen cheese ravioli into the cheese mixture, ensuring each ravioli piece is well coated without breaking them.
  6. Layer the casserole: Spread the ravioli and cheese mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  7. Add meat sauce layer: Pour the sausage and spaghetti sauce mixture evenly over the ravioli and cheese layer.
  8. Top with mozzarella: Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top of the meat sauce layer.
  9. Bake: Bake the casserole uncovered in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden.
  10. Cool: Remove the casserole from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes before serving to allow it to set.
  11. Garnish and serve: Sprinkle chopped parsley on top as a fresh garnish, if desired, then serve warm and enjoy.

Notes

  • Use frozen cheese ravioli for convenience; no need to thaw before mixing.
  • For a spicier flavor, consider using Italian sausage with added spices or add crushed red pepper flakes to the sauce.
  • Substitute ground beef if preferred instead of Italian sausage.
  • Letting the casserole cool slightly helps it hold its shape when slicing and serving.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
